Which Smartphone Should I Buy?

| Sunday, September 02, 2012 | |

From those featured in phone providers’ ads to models you see in tech stores, there sure are a lot of smart-phones available these days. Whether you need a smartphone for your private rehab center or for personal use, you may find it difficult to decide which one is best for you. Here are some pros and cons of the most popular smart-phones out there.

Apple

The Apple iPhone 4 and 4S are industry leaders in the smartphone world. It’s no wonder why; they have sturdier hardware and better software innovations than most other phones. Apple has a monopoly on iPhones, which allows the company to release updates more frequently and ensure that the hardware and software work well together.
Since other phones have different companies manufacture their software and hardware, sometimes they don’t work well together. By buying an iPhone, you’re also guaranteed you’ll always have the latest software. In fact, the 3-year-old iPhone 3 runs on the same software as the new models.
With their smaller screen size (3.5” as opposed to 4” or larger), iPhones are just about the only smartphones that will still fit in a pants pocket. The iPhone is also very easy to use and has the largest, oldest App stores, with thousands of free apps available.

Android

If you want more variety in hardware and phone models, then the Android may be right for you. Android phones are available from numerous carriers, such as HTC, LG, Samsung, and more. They generally have a bigger screen size than the iPhone, which is convenient if you plan on watching a lot of videos or have poor eyesight.
Some companies also offer incentives for buying Androids. Verizon Wireless recently started a promotion on select Androids that allows you to get 4G of data a month for the same price as 2G. If you get lost all the time, the Android phone is your best option for GPS and location software.
Many Android phones run on the 4G LTE network, so you can browse the internet at record speeds. Android’s philosophy is that apps should be free, meaning you’ll be able to load up your phone with lots of great apps at no charge. The downsides to the Android store are that it has a smaller selection than iTunes and not all apps work with every phone. However, Android makes up for it by offering lots of storage space for music and games.

Windows

Although you probably haven’t heard a lot of about Windows phones, they’re definitely something you should keep an eye out for in the future. The phones haven’t been around very long and aren’t available for many carriers yet, but they definitely have some cool features. For starters, Windows has the best smartphone for running Microsoft Exchange, Office, OneNote, and other similar applications. This makes it great for running any business, whether you own a marketing company or a rehab center.
They’re also good for gamers. If you have an Xbox live account, you can sync it with your Windows phone. The quality of the games on the Windows Phone is outstanding.
Music lovers even have the option to purchase a monthly Zune pass, which allows them to download as much music of any kind you want whenever you want.
