Flexible Screens in The Future, Thanks to Improvements in Transistors

| Thursday, January 29, 2015 | | | Be first to comment!

Organic electronic building blocks are being researched upon extensively as they hold a lot of potential when it comes to building devices as they require less energy and will be cost effective. But the most promising feature concerning developments using the organic FETs(Field Effect Transistor) is the mechanical compatibility, meaning development of devices with flexible nature. Progress in this field has already given out a new paradigm, “Plastic Electronics”, which directly counters the existing “Silicon electronics”. A recent review published in Science and Technology Of Advanced Materials reports optical functionalities being integrated in the conventional transistors. Researchers also claimed that these improvements should soon be expected in manufacturing of transistors which can be used to develop paper-thin and flexible screens.

After its introduction back in 2003, there has been a lot of improvements in developing the organic field effect transistors(OFET). OFETs were first developed to give out low cost large size display screens. But the latest reviews suggest improvements in light emitting organic field effect transistors (LE-OFET). LE-OFET combine functionalities of both, the OLEDs and the OFETs. These photoactive organic field effect transistors are said to possess the properties of amplifying weak signals and of receiving light too. Field effect carrier mobility of LE-OFETs has reached 20 cm^2/Vs which makes them good enough to be used in practical applications.

The review article also suggests that light emission efficiency and brightness of these transistors will soon improve. The next versions of the LE-OFETs are supposed to be compatible with the already existing electronic setups. LE-OFETs are also being used to develop transparent and flexible computer screens. With this said one can also think of their extensive use in smartphones too. These display units are said to offer faster response time and better energy efficiency. Above all these features, such display units inculcating LE-OFETs won’t require any backlight. This being said it is implied that the power consumption is bound to go down. They are also assumed to enable the development of optical communications and optoelectronic systems, since the switching rates of these transistors is quite good.

Japanese researchers also said that there are some issues in these components and a collaborative effort by organic chemists and device physicists is required to resolve these stumbling blocks. These developments would definitely open new frontiers for both electronic and photonic worlds with properties like flexibility, light weight, optical memory storage or high-density data storage. While it is speculated that such devices with all-plastic components and flexible nature will still take a decade to become ready for the users, you can only hope for its speedy development.

Top 5 Entry-Level Laptops With Windows 8 OS

| Friday, December 20, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

It is a completely wise decision you've taken to pay those extra bucks for a laptop loaded with genuine operating system instead of using pirated copies. Undoubtedly, there are a lot of advantages of a genuine version of operating system which we will discuss some other day. For now, let's go check out 5 most popular Windows 8 laptops available in India.

HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-B173TU Sleekbook

As the name suggests, HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14 sports a 14 inch touch screen that comes with 64-bit Windows 8 operating system. This laptop has a glossy body made up of plastic material yet it feels comfortable to use. It is powered by a 1.3GHz Intel Core i3 processor; 500 GB storage and 4 GB RAM which could be further expanded up to 8 GB using the additional RAM slot available on board. The 14" LED backlight display has a screen resolution of 1366x768 pixels. The laptop also has a HD camera located above the screen which could be used for video calling and snapping selfies using the laptop. It also has an extra sensitive touchpad which eliminates the need to carry an extra mouse on your backpack.
This touchscreen based laptop from HP weighs approximately 2 kg and has a 4 cell battery which should be good enough to keep the laptop powered for about 4 hours with wireless connectivity turned on. In terms of connectivity options, the laptop supports Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0 and connectivity ports which includes 3 x USB ports, Ethernet port, VGA, HDMI and a Mic-in port on the left of the laptop. HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-B173TU is fairly priced at approximately Rs. 35,500 in India.

Sony VAIO Fit 14E F14212SN/W

If you are looking for something from a brand endorsed by Kareena Kapoor, then you can check out the Sony VAIO Fit 14E series laptop. The Sony VAIO Fit 14E F14212SN/W is again, a 14" touch screen based laptop that comes with Windows 8 operating system pre-installed. The screen resolution of this laptop is 1366x768 pixels. Though this laptop from Sony has a better and newer Core i3 (3rd generation) processor when compared to the HP Pavilion laptop, it has just 2 GB of RAM in contrary to 4 GB RAM in the HP TouchSmart laptop mentioned earlier. But of course, if needed at a future point of time, the RAM here could be upgraded up to 8 GB using the free RAM slot available on board. The laptop has 500GB SATA hard disk for data storage and comes with common connectivity features such as Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0 and connectivity ports including 4 x USB ports, microphone-in, Ethernet, HDMI and a memory card reader.

The laptop weighs 2.2 kg and priced at about Rs. 36,690 which includes 1 year on-site warranty.

Dell Vostro 2420

Though, unlike other 2 laptops mentioned earlier, this laptop by Dell doesn't have a touch screen, but if you're a Dell loyalist and looking for something very sturdy then this laptop would prove to be an ideal partner for you. As many of you might know, Dell is known for its study build quality and aesthetic designs. This laptop comes with a 14" HD WLED screen with screen resolution of 1366x768 pixels. An added advantage here is the anti-glare coating on its screen that helps to eliminate unwanted glare and reflections from the screen.
The Dell Vostro 2420 laptop is powered with a 2.4 GHz Core i3 3rd generation processor and 4 GB of RAM. For data storage, the laptop has a 500 GB SATA hard disk and comes with Windows 8 operating system pre-installed. Samsung NP535U4C-S02IN

If the configuration and the hardware matters to you more than the looks and design of a laptop, then I bet this laptop from Samsung would be quite tempting to you that has a power house under the hood. It is powered with a 1.6 GHz APU quad-core A8 processor and whopping 6GB of RAM and 1TB of hard disk drive for data storage. The screen used in this device is 14” diagonally and just like other laptops listed on this post, it comes with Windows 8 operating system pre-installed and even has a dedicated graphics card with 1GB of VRAM.

It has all the common connectivity options including Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0 and connectivity ports including 3 USB port, Mic-in, RJ45 LAN port, HDMI, VGA and Multi-card slot. The laptop has a 8 cell battery and weighs about 1.81 KG. It is currently priced at about Rs. 39,000 in India which includes 1 year on-site warranty.

Acer V5-431P The Acer

V5-431P is one of the best laptop for day-to-day usage at home and colleges, and comes with an inexpensive price tag. The laptop has a 14" touch screen and is powered by a 1.5GHz Intel Pentium Celeron dual-core processor and 2GB RAM which could be further expanded up to 8GB using the free RAM slot available on board. It has 500GB of hard disk drive for data storage and comes with Windows 8 OS preloaded.

Though it is priced way below other laptops mentioned in this post, it comes with a complete package of features and hardware required for day-to-day usage. The laptop has a built-in DVD writer and has all the connectivity options including Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, connectivity ports namely USB, HDMI, VGA and Ethernet. Despite being inexpensive, the laptop also has great build and design but you'll have to manage with the low screen quality as it has poor viewing angles and brightness levels.

Five affordable tablets with calling feature

| Tuesday, October 29, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Tablets are not a niche segment anymore. What once started out as a second screen is now a device that is a must-buy for most users. This is mostly due to the added functionality a tablet comes with, in that it can double as a communication device on the go. Most tablets now come with a SIM card slot that allows users to add a SIM and access Internet using cellular networks. While tablets are a dime a dozen, here are a few 3G-enabled tablets that stand out from the rest:

top five tablets
Affordable Tablets

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 T211

Samsung has decided to go with the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” policy with the Galaxy Tab 3. The tablet features a similar design and has hardware that has not changed much from the Tab 2. The Tab 3 T211 comes with a 7-inch screen, and does come with narrower bezels than its earlier offering. In terms of hardware, the tablet does quite well with a 1.2 GHz dual-core CPU, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB ROM with a micro-SD slot that can extend memory to 32 GB , a 3MP camera at the back and a 1.3MP shooter at the front along with a 4,000 mAh battery.

The T211 is a 3G tablet, and users can install a SIM card to access Internet on the go. If you are near a Wi-Fi network, the Tab 3 211 allows you to connect to 2.4 GHz as well as 5 GHz wireless networks, which is an added advantage. Although there is nothing that is groundbreaking on the device, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 price in India is just Rs. 15,392, which means that it will sell very well. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is a little outdated, but there is nothing that you’re missing out on.

Asus Fonepad

Asus is a relative newcomer to the tablet segment, but has managed to establish a foothold quite well. The Fonepad is a great tablet, and one of the best that is available in this segment. The 7-inch offering comes with a 720p HD screen, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB ROM, micro-SD card slot, a 3.15 MP camera at the back and a 1.2 MP camera at the front along with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The tablet also has a 4,270 mAh battery, and the single SIM card slot is of the GSM variety.

One of the distinguishing features on the tablet is the inclusion of a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor, which makes it very fast. Intel is set to announce its next-generation Bay Trail processors next year, but for now the current Atom series is fast enough to suit users’ needs, and is available for just Rs. 13,100.

Lenovo IdeaTab A3000

Lenovo is enjoying a great year that has seen it overtake traditional notebook vendors like Dell. Its move to go global is also working out very well for the brand, as its mobile and tablet offerings are well-received by users in India and elsewhere. The IdeaTab A3000 is the third tablet launched in India, and comes with great features. The tablet is one of a few that comes with dual-SIM functionality (GSM + GSM), and that means that you can use two different mobile networks while on the go.

Other hardware features include a 7-inch screen (1024 x 600 pixels), 1 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and a 5 megapixel camera at the back along with a measly 0.3 megapixel shooter at the front. It does have Wi-Fi connectivity, internal codecs for the latest audio and video file formats, and a 3,500 mAh battery that is claimed to last for 8 hours of continuous internet browsing. The IdeaTab A300 is available for Rs. 12,975 in India.

Micromax Canvas Tab P650

Micromax has released a lot of tablets under the FunBook moniker, but it looks like the largest Indian manufacturer is looking to consolidate offerings under a single line. The Canvas Tab is the first such tablet, and comes with hardware that is decent. It may not be the fastest or the best tablet on this list, but Micromax is counting on its loyal user base and strong advertising efforts to push sales of this tablet further. The tablet is available in India for Rs. 13,000.

The Micromax Canvas Tab comes with an 8-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM of which 12 GB is available to the user, 5 megapixel camera at the back with a 2 megapixels camera at the front and runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. The 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor makes sure that the tablet can handle any intensive tasks you throw at it. Also available is Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity.

XOLO QC800

Xolo is also getting into the tablet market, and the QC800 is a testament to how far the Indian manufacturer has come in a year. The tablet features identical hardware to the Micromax Tab, but comes with a Qualcomm 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 8225Q CPU than the MediaTek one used in Micromax’s offering. The front camera is also very low and is an area Xolo could’ve worked at. That being said, the tablet is on offer for just Rs. 11,500 which is less than what other tablets in this segment cost.

Cheaper alternative to laptops- Stylish HP Chromebook 11

| Monday, October 21, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Since their inception in mid-2011, there have been plenty of Chromebooks launched, ranging from the ridiculously overpriced Google Pixel to Acer’s 200$ C7. Although, none of them has really managed to set the market alight. In a bid to impress critics and users alike, HP has teamed up with Google for its latest offering, the HP Chromebook 11. Let’s see what HP’s new Chromebook brings to the table.

DESIGN

Weighing in at a little over 2.3 pounds, the Chromebook 11 has a sleek and attractive design with a glossy finish. The corners are softly rounded and it comes in two colour variants: white and black. You can also take your pick of four accent colours for the back lid: red, green, blue and yellow. The Chromebook has a chiclet style keyboard which is comfortable for typing. The laptop feels solid and smooth, and the design might remind you of Macbook’s now discontinued plastic variant. Having said that, the Chrombook 11 is an eye catching device and feels sturdier than most other Chromebooks in the same price range.

SCREEN

The 11.6 incher sports an IPS display, with a resolution of 1366x768. The screen looks crisp, bright and sharp and the colours look gorgeous. The IPS screen also offers excellent viewing angles. There is no touch screen but the Chromebook 11 definitely has one of the better screens in the budget Chromebook market.

HARDWARE, CONNECTIVITY and STORAGE

Under the hood, the laptop runs on a dual-core Samsung Exynos 2520 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of SSD memory. There is no fan under the hood, which isn’t surprising as things aren’t expected to get particularly hot with the Samsung processor. There’s an interesting addition of a standard microUSB charging port, which means you can charge your phone and laptop with the same charger but the absence of an HDMI port and SD slot might irk some people. Connectivity options include 2 USB ports, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and an optional Micro-SIM slot for the 4G/LTE variant.

SOFTWARE and BATTERY

Like all other Chromebooks, this laptop runs on Google’s cloud based Chrome OS. Cloud storage means all your data is backed up on a remote cloud storage and while you can always lose your Chromebook, you’re never going to lose your data. The laptop comes with 100 GB of Google Drive cloud storage, free for 2 years. Google claims that the Chromebook can give upto 6 hours of active usage on a single charge, not bad Google.

CAMERA and AUDIO

Nothing extraordinary on the imaging front, as the Chromebook comes with a standard VGA web camera. The laptop contains no visible vents and thus the speaker vents are moved below the keyboard. Google claims its new speaker vents give “sound ported up through the keyboard”, it remains to be seen how much difference that makes in the real world.

VERDICT

In terms of design and build quality, the Chromebook 11 is perhaps the sexiest and most sturdy laptop in its price range. The device comes with a nippy processor and a decent screen. If you can live with the limitations of the Chrome OS, HP’s Chromebook 11 is a solid option at the pricing of 279.99$, and definitely one to consider.

The company produces high end smart phones that are heavy both on features and technology. HTC has been constantly adding to its cavalry that are able to give competition to all the phones that are present in the market. Their most successful series has been the HTC desire series which has a number of great phones including the HTC Desire S, HTC Desire Q and HTC Desire C. They have recently announced another phone in the same series called the HTC Desire 200.

Smaller version of HTC One SmartPhone is Coming: What to Expect?

| Tuesday, June 18, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

The HTC One is a great device. There is no point against it and even if there is, I don’t like to hear it as I absolutely love the device. The ultra-pixel camera on the HTC one was a bold move by the company and we appreciate the move. Everyone else has been busy adding more pixels to the images captured by phones but they did some good by actually making an attempt to improve the camera quality. The ultrapixel camera works great to capture pics in low light and 4.7 inch 1080p display shows you colors to their truest.
HTC One Mini Smartphone what to expect
HTC One Mini
Now there is a word out that a smaller version is in works which might provide people with the similar experience and feel at a lower price. We have seen such moves from the stable of Samsung and apparently HTC is trying the same in a hope to sell good number of units. We have seen Samsung announce the S4 mini which would provide users with similar looking device and provide them with some of the high end features from the Galaxy S4.

This works well for the manufacturers as people buy the device for the name and the few features that they won’t otherwise get in phones priced close. Plus the looks are deceiving too. Not everyone needs a quad core device just for making a few calls and sending a few messages, but the looks of a high end phone make them desirable. A “scaled down” version would provide users with the same looks and elegance of design without taking up the cost. We take a look at what the internet rumors have to say about the upcoming HTC one mini.

Design

The HTC one mini would simply follow the design scheme of elder brother HTC one. It might be a bit thicker than the HTC one but the edges and curves will all retain their shape. The HTC one is a great looking device so we shouldn’t have any complaints against the design of HTC one mini too.

Display

HTC has been providing decent displays in their devices (well except for the low end devices) and this one is expected to have a nice display as well. Plus it has to carry the HTC one name so a good display would be necessary to couple with the looks. The HTC one has a 4.7 inch 1080p display. This ‘one’ is supposed to have 4.3 inch display having 720p resolution. This would give a pixel density of over 340 pixels per inch and that is sweet. The display won’t have contrast ratios as good as the AMOLED displays seen on Samsung devices but it would surely have great colour replication and excellent brightness.

Hardware

The HTC one runs a Qualcomm chipset and a quad core Krait processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. The specifications of quad core Samsung Galaxy S4 are somewhat close to it, with slightly higher clock speed. The scaled down Galaxy S4, S4 mini is getting a dual core processor running at a clock speed of 1.7 GHz and 1.5 or 2 GB of RAM. The HTC one mini is supposed to have almost the same basic hardware. A 1.5 or 1.7 GHz dual core processor coupled with 1.5 or 2 GB of RAM, the more the better.

The phone might or might not have the infrared port like that on the standard HTC one to control you infrared devices around the house. Chances exist that they might add that feature to give people something exclusive from the high end device.

Camera

The camera on HTC one is a 4 megapixel ultra-pixel camera. If you didn’t get the jargons, then a simple explanation is that it is a low resolution camera, working at a larger light sensor. This way each pixel of image can have more area on the light sensor (2µm in case of HTC one) which improves image quality. The colour replication was greatly improved over most mobile cameras and even low light photos had greater details and low noise.

We always used to say that just increasing the count of pixels in an image won’t do any good to photography and someone actually needs to act different from the crowd and make a better low resolution camera. HTC took the bold move and put a 4 megapixel ultra-pixel camera in HTC One. This is one of the reason we love HTC one. They actually worked towards improving quality of photos we click rather than just joining the megapixel war. Some might say that 4 megapixels is too small for a photograph but then we would say that they haven’t welcomed the digital photography well. How many good posters have they made out of the 8 or 13 megapixel camera they have got on their phone? We have still got a 3.2 megapixel Sony digital camera and I still use it instead of the 8 megapixel camera on my phone. And believe us we know what a good photograph is.

Chances exist that we might see the same camera on the baby HTC one. And if it happens, we would be the part of happiest group in the world. This would put the great camera of HTC one in many hands and once people realize that it is actually better than their previous camera stating double the megapixel number, they will look for quality and not high megapixels. If things go this way, it will surely force other manufacturers to go for the same methodology and would do some good to the mobile photography.

This is a promising phone that people will look forward to. In fact we would prefer HTC One mini over Samsung S4 mini if they are priced close. The phone is supposed to be priced a bit over 25K if and when it is launched in India and we feel it would be worth it.

Fast and easy photo sharing through Fuji Digital camers

| Wednesday, June 05, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Today everything revolves around social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and 9gag. When someone sees something special, funny or weird in any way, they will photograph it and publish on some social network. The connection between digital camera and internet, especially social network is more important than ever. People from Fujifilm decided to use this connection and make a digital camera that can in an easy and fast way share photos between smart phone and digital camera.

The Fuji FinePix F800 is a digital camera from Fujifilm that has one application for easier and better sharing photos between digital camera and your smart phone or tablet. The whole camera is very simple and elegant, it has elegant curves and it is available in three colors; red, blue and black. They made it with rubber edges to prevent it from slipping, which is great move. This camera has a manual pop up flash, which you can open with one button and you can close it just by putting it back in the camera. It is very easy to handle with simple commands. On the top of the camera there are few buttons, like the power button and function button. The great thing about this camera is that is has separate button for video control so you can start recording no matter what you are doing at the moment.

A brief Review about Fuji FinePix F800

This Fuji FinePix has 16.6 megapixels EXR CMOS sensor for high quality photographs. Photos taken with this digital camera are great, sharp and clear with great colors, even in low lights. This camera has great wide-angle which is perfect for landscapes or group photos. The video recorded with this digital camera is HQ with excellent stereo sound. This camera is different from other cameras because with it you can share your photos on the digital camera with you tablet. This is named Wireless Image Transfer. You can just turn it on and expect from it to work, you'll have to download an application to your smart phone or tablet named Fujifilm Photo Reciever.

FujiFilm Photo Receiver for iOS and Android

A Fujifilm Photo Receiver is an application made by Fujifilm for you to synchronize your Fuji digital camera with Wireless Image Transfer and your smart phone and tablet. It is compatible with both iPhones and Android smart phones and iPad and Android tablets, so you can download it for both brands on the internet. When you open the application, it shows you the list of the cameras with what you can use it. The application is free and compatible to almost every brand of tablet and smart phones on the market. When you start this application, you can upload photos directly from your digital camera without any passwords or any kind of identification. You don't have to upload every picture separately; you can do it in about 30 pictures at a time, no more than 2 GB in size, which is a great thing. Before choosing which one you will download you can browse on you tablet and see which pictures you have and then choose only few you like.

You can drive, shop, walk or just clean your house with them on. At first, people used them just to answer and take calls, but today, you can listen to music, even dictate text for SMS on your mobile. Due to their popularity, there are many models, sizes and brands. Here are one of the best headsets on the market:

Windows Tablets vs. Android Tablets: Pros and Cons

| Friday, March 08, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Apple's release of the iPad changed how people view computing. Shortly after its release, Google honed its Android platform for use on tablets, and many manufacturers have since released capable Android tablets. However, Microsoft has entered the tablet field as well, and although its entry was late, some experts believe that Microsoft will play a significant role in the coming years. Here are some of the pros and cons of Android tablets and how they compare with Microsoft's offerings.
Android tablets VS Windows tablets

Available Options

One of Android's greatest advantages is that it is free and open source. As a result, manufacturers do not need permission from Google to release Android devices. This freedom has created a market where there are numerous options available for businesses. While Microsoft licenses its tablet operating system, it is more demanding than Google, and some manufacturers may not be permitted to create Microsoft devices. As a result, those looking for the ultimate in present and future diversity may prefer Android tablets. That said, companies that are satisfied by a particular Microsoft device may find it to be the right choice for them.

Integration

Android tablets are designed to function well within Google's ecosystem, and companies that use Google's suite of tools may prefer Android tablets for this reason. Microsoft tablets, however, are designed to work well with Windows, which is still the most popular operating system used by businesses. While integration is a concern, it should be noted that more developers are targeting Android than ever before, and many programs will have options available on the Android platform in the future. In addition, Microsoft tablets are capable of accessing Google's products through either native apps or through their web interfaces. In general, integration should not be a deciding factor unless there is a particular program that only runs on a particular device. With the move to web-based programs, this consideration will likely become even less important in the future.

Price

In the past years, it has become clear that Android will be the dominant player in the low-cost market. For companies that are looking to use their tablets for only a limited role, price may be the leading consideration, and those seeking the lowest operating costs possible will find Android to be the preferable choice. That said, Windows tablets are designed to function partially as laptop replacements. Because of this, switching to a Windows tablet may allow a company to avoid a new purchase of laptops. When performing the calculations, it is important to realize that no tablet is capable of replacing a full computer, so desktop and laptop purchases must be factored in as well.

The Future

Will the future is always difficult to predict, it is clear that Android will continue to be a major player in the tablet field. As the most popular mobile operating system in the world, developers will continue to target Android. The future Windows on mobile devices, however, is a bit more hazy. That said, Windows tablets are capable of running Windows desktop software, and support will not completely evaporate in the foreseeable future. Those looking for the safe choice, however, will want to stick with Android.

Top 5 Android Smartphones to buy in 2013

| Wednesday, March 06, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Although the iPhone 5 and the upcoming Phone 5S will be a big hit throughout the year, there are also a number of Android smartphones that Apple should watch out for. If you are thinking of purchasing a smartphone this year then let us shed some light on which are the top Android phones, based on their specifications and performance. Samsung is probably Apple’s closest competitor (as well as being a supplier of components for the iPhone) and we should expect them to release more Android OS devices this year.

In fact, Android and iOS are both in racing to achieve one billion users, according to Business Insider. Last year, Information Handling Services (IHS) released a report which projected that cumulative shipments of Android devices would reach 1.1 billion by the end of this year. Daniel Gleeson, mobile analyst of IHS, said that “Android are taking over the world of smartphones. We expect the Android operating system to become the first to reach the milestone of 1 billion shipments during its lifetime.”

If you want to join the increasing number of Android smartphone users worldwide, we’ve listed the top five that you should consider buying this year.

1. Samsung Galaxy S3

As Samsung and Apple take their rivalry very seriously, the Korean manufacturer will surely come up with various smartphones and devices to prove they have the right to take home the prize. One of their best-selling devices—and perhaps the best selling Android handset on the market—is the Samsung Galaxy S3. It features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, a1.4 GHz processor, a Quad-core Snapdragon, 2GB RAM, 16GB to 32GB internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 4.8-inch display (720x1280 LCD). In the US, the top three large 4G LTE carriers (Verizon, AT&T and Sprint) have presented affordable contract prices for Samsung S3, starting as low as $99. With powerful features and a reasonable price, Samsung Galaxy S3 remains the top Android smartphone in the market.

2. LG (Google) Nexus 4

If you opt for inexpensive smartphone that carries the latest Android OS then go for LG (Google) Nexus 4. Manufactured by LG with Google’s ideas and creativity, the Nexus 4 carries the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, 1.5 GHz processor, Quad-core chip, generous 2GB RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, 4.7-inch display (768x1280 LCD) and 8GB internal storage. Although the internal storage is not as huge as those on other smartphones, it makes up for its high resolution screen, which is “the highest resolution of any Android smartphone ,” according to Expertreviews.com.

3. Motorala Droid RAZR MAXX HD

Smartphones allow you to open many applications in one screen; however the more apps open means the more battery you use. If you’re the type who always multi-task on your smartphone, then the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD will solve your fast draining battery problem. Although this smartphone only supports a 720p display, it makes up for this with a 3,300 mAh battery which allows you to use it for up to 372 hours of stand-by time or up to 32 hours on talk time. Apart from its long lasting battery life, RAZR MAXX HD has an extremely durable design, uses Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, and has a decent 4.7 inch Corning Gorilla Glass screen. This fantastic phone is available at Amazon.com for $99.99 on-contract. You can also download a battery saver app for Android to improve your battery life and enjoy your smartphone for even longer.

4. Sony Xperia Z

The Sony Xperia series has been on the market for long time, but this is the first time that the company has taken their game up a notch by presenting us with the powerful Sony Xperia Z. This amazing smartphone has a huge 5-inch display (1080x1920 pixels), Quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5 GHz Krait, Android OS version 4.1.2 Jelly Bean which is upgradable to version 4.2, 13-megapixel rear camera and 2.2-megapixel front camera. The phone is also said to be water-resistant for up to six feet and supports a sturdy battery life of 11 hours talk time or up to 550 hours standby time.

5. Lenovo IdeaPhone K900

Lenovo is a brand more known for laptops and computers, yet they have proven to be a great name for smartphones, especially with Lenovo IdeaPhone K900. It offers users 5.5-inch screen (1080x1920 pixels), Corning Gorilla Glass 2 display, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera, and supports Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS, as well as packing an Intel Atom Z2580 chip, and Dual-core 1.8 GHz. The company claims that it’s the thinnest smartphone for its class and it is certainly remarkably light and slim at only 6.9mm. The pricing information for Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 is not yet available, but the company said it will be on sale in China by early April of this year.

Users have numerous reasons why they might want to purchase smartphones. Some said they enjoy the convenience of having a phone, camera, and gaming and internet mobile device in one. It lets them access their social networking sites, take and edit photos, play their favorite mobile app games, and access the internet wherever they go. As more Android smartphones present better and stronger features every year, it can feel hard work to know which one you should buy. The list above will hopefully enlighten you on what’s the best mobile device to suit your lifestyle and needs.

Nokia Adds '520 & 720' to Lumia Lineup of Smartphones

| Wednesday, March 06, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Nokia expanded its range of Lumia Smartphones by unveiling the 520 and 720 handsets at the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona this week.

The company believes that it is possible to enjoy the best Smartphone features without shelling out that much money. They also introduced two entry level phones, the 105 and 305. The 105 is targeted at first time users and sports a small 1.45 inch screen with essential features like alarms, FM radio and so on. The 305 has a display double the size, and sports a 3 MP camera and web browser too. These two phones are expected to be launched in over 120 countries worldwide.

Let us see what specs the new additions boast:

Lumia 720

  1. Display: 4.3-inch WVGA, resolution 800 x 480 pixels
  2. CPU: Snapdragon 1 GHz dual core S4 chip
  3. RAM: 512
  4. Inbuilt storage 8 GB, expandable via Micro SD card (*this is a first for a Lumia Smartphone)
  5. Camera: Primary rear camera of 6.7 MP; Front camera 1.3 MP with wide angle lens and HD quality.
  6. NFC capability
The rear camera is capable of taking good quality pictures even in dim light.. The 720 looks as elegant as the 920 but is even more sleek and light. Nokia’s standard services like Nokia Music and Here locations suite are incorporated in the phone. Here offers turn by turn navigational directions. The touchscreen is extremely responsive and the OS is silky smooth.

This device is expected to carry a price tag of $ 330 and will be released soon in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore, later followed by India, Europe, China and Africa. There is no word as yet on whether the 720 will be released in US markets.

Lumia 520

Touted as the most affordable WP 8 Smartphone to come from Nokia; at $ 183, it certainly looks like it.
  1. Processor: 1 GHz dual core chip
  2. Camera: 5 MP primary
  3. RAM and memory same as the 720
  4. Display: 4 inches WVGA
The camera has digital lenses as in the 920, and software that allows you to filter the images, add effects and highlight features that you want.

This handset will be seen in US markets though it’s likely that it will be available on contract with a carrier.

Neither of the handsets are 4G LTE capable. This is an attempt by the company to woo budget conscious consumers, and to offer a wide choice of WP 8 Smartphones, and to re-establish themselves as a major player in the Smartphone segment. How far it will succeed depends to some extent on the efficiency of the WP 8 OS too. It is definitely not a very task considering the wildfire like popularity of the iPhones and the Galaxy S series. However, given the extremely competitive price tags on these two handsets, the powerful cameras, and attractive looks, I for one, would not be surprised to see consumers making a beeline for them.

Using the ‘Beam’ you can share contacts, webpages, maps and YouTube videos by merely touching the two phones together. Is your friend new to your town? He might find great difficulty in finding out directions in a map. You can go to his immediate help by sharing directions using the Google Maps.

Verdict

The ‘Flash’ is popular for its 12.6MP camera, but sadly delivers a sub-par performance. The Sprint’s Flash Android Smartphone is a decent one, but can never be compared with some of the high end phones like LG Optimus G, Samsung Galaxy S3 and others. These Android based phones deliver better performance in terms of features, battery life and outward appearance. Whereas, when this phone is weighed against some of the other budget phones in the market, ‘Flash’ holds a special place for itself.
