Best QWERTY Keypad Phones of 2012

| Sunday, December 30, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

With the touchscreen ruling the roost, other phones seem to have taken the backseat. The touch-screen smartphone is stylish and though it takes some getting used to it, most users don’t mind the effort.
The initial frustration of pinpointing the right alphabet on a capacitive screen doesn’t last long. You usually get used to it, but some don’t. For those individuals, a QWERTY keypad is as far as they would go in the tech revolution.
That’s why companies manufacturing phones with QWERTY keypads witness steady sales all through the year. A touch-screen phone might be the in-thing to possess, but what if functionality matters more than style to you?
That’s when you should go hunting for a smartphone with a QWERTY keypad.

Blackberry Curve 9320

We all know that BlackBerry is the ultimate when it comes to QWERTY keypads. This along with the exclusive BB Messenger makes any device from the manufacturer a good buy.

The BlackBerry Curve 9320 is a good budget buy if you’re allergic to touchscreen models. Typing on the sturdy keypad will ensure that convenience never leaves your fingers.

The BlackBerry 7.1 OS is certainly a huge improvement and adds to the stylish look of the phone. The BB App store support is also a handy addition. The 3.2 megapixel camera takes decent pictures, but it’s not for those who are click-crazy. The 320x240 resolution isn’t impressive, but the small screen won’t be a problem for those who welcome the QWERTY keypad.

Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos

Another QWERTY keypad phone that works wonders for those who love the sounds of typing. This Samsung beauty running on Gingerbread, offers users Android flexibility along with some nifty features.

The larger battery comes in handy if you’re using the dual-SIM feature and whether typing mails and texts take up a lot of your time. Released early 2012, this phone certainly picked up pace as the year passed by.

While other touchscreen phones may have hogged the limelight, this Samsung option is a good choice if QWERTY typing is your main requirement in a phone. It has both rear and front-end cameras.

Nokia Asha 302

Nokia has always been well known for coming out with somber-looking QWERT phones that did well with business users. However, its Asha 302 is much more stylish than the ones that have come before.

The Asha 302 stands out for two reasons: the QWERTY keypad and enhanced features. Broad buttons make constant typing an easier task and getting used to this phone doesn’t take long.

The 1GHz processor works wonders for online browsing. Faster load time is huge plus point and so is the addition of useful apps, unlike the 303. The three models mentioned here can really help you get rid of all your touchscreen woes. While it may not be very fashionable to use a QWERTY keypad smartphone, it certainly has its own advantages.

Such phones look pretty unique today and they last much longer since you’re not jabbing at the screen continuously. There are many others that can offer a better mobile experience, but at a higher price.

Yahoo Unveils 'Revamped Mail Service'

| Thursday, December 20, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Yahoo, on Tuesday, unveiled a newer version of its email service that’s slated to be faster, sleeker and easier to use. The latest version is said to be a user-friendly interface designed with an intention of giving users easy and quicker access to their emails. News about the revamp was announced by Marissa Mayer on Yahoo’s corporate blog. Apart from being available on the Web, this latest version is slated to be available on all other major platforms, such as smartphones and tablets. Tablets include Google’s Android devices, Apple’s iOS devices and Windows Phone 8 devices. The newer version of Yahoo Mail is, perhaps, the first major product revamp by Marissa Mayer, former Google executive, who became Yahoo’s Chief Executive.

Shortly after taking over the reins of a struggling Yahoo, she said that one of her top priorities was to create an understandable and organized mobile strategy and to reverse the company’s long years of declining profits. The changes in Yahoo Mail came in response to the changing user needs and requirements. The upgrade means that Yahoo has worked a lot in trying to keep pace with Google and other Web mail service providers who are offering free and better service for their users.

The revamped mail service is, no doubt, easier to use. And with the Yahoo Mail app, according to reviews in Google Play and Apple’s App Store, you can access your inbox with a single touch. If you scroll continuously, you can scan all your inbox messages without any sort of interruption. This app comes in handy even while composing messages. This app lets you attach images or take new images even while you are composing a message. You also get to preview attached images. By swiping left, you will be able to delete, move, mark as read or flag the message. This app also lets you select multiple messages at the same time. When you are looking for a particular message, this app will simply let you search all the files and folders. With the newer version of Yahoo Mail in place, it is expected that the email services will have a consistent look across platforms.

Google and Microsoft have already enhanced their email capabilities with an effort to take on the market. With the revamped email offering, Yahoo will certainly not stay in the sidelines of the industry. While Android and iPhone Yahoo Mail apps will be available to users immediately, the desktop app will start rolling out in the next few days.

Being a well-known name in the Silicon industry, Mayer, with her years of experience, is expected to bring Yahoo back to its glorious days. Yahoo was one of the most popular search engines and email services providers in the mid-90 when it suddenly fell way behind other small yet innovative companies. Mayer joined Yahoo early July after the beleaguered company had a string of three CEO’s in leading the company. With Mayer at the helm, Yahoo may recapture its place as one of the leaders of the industry.

Facebook is full of users that make fake profiles with inappropriate content. These users generally, become friends with other such users thus, forming an inappropriate users network. Facebook staff is working hard to keep the users safe from these unwanted profiles, especially the under age users. Facebook Renames 'Subscribe' Option as 'Follow'

| Sunday, December 16, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites. It has over 1 billion active users and is one the most visited websites of all time. Facebook can be used by individuals and businesses. You can create a Facebook profile for personal use, a Page for a business, a band or a fictional character and a Group for special interests.
When you create a profile on Facebook, you can add friends to your contact list and when they update their status or share links and images, you get notified about it on your News Feed. When you create a Facebook Page, you cannot add friends. On the other hand, people can subscribe to your page by clicking the ‘Like’ button and know about your updates, links and pictures you post. There is no limit for the number of people who can subscribe to your Page and this is convenient for business and special interest groups. You can even create badges of your Page and embed them on your blog or website. When someone who visits your website clicks the ‘Like’ button on the badge, they are subscribed to your news feed. This tool has been of great use for internet marketing and lead generation.

Facebook Groups on the other hand does not have news feeds or updates and rather it is a stripped down version of internet forums. When you join a group, you can interact with other users who are in the group and share pictures, videos and links on the group’s Wall. Just like Facebook Pages, Groups do not have limits on the number of users who join. Although Facebook removed the discussion threads from Groups, the popularity of Groups has not come down.

When you create a Facebook profile for individual use, you have a limit on the number of friends you can add. Facebook initially had 10,000 as the upper limit and later bought it down to 5,000 claiming that people were misusing the feature. But Facebook added a new feature called ‘Subscribe’. Facebook also changed the privacy settings and you now have the ability to share the update or post with any one on Facebook or you can limit it to your friends and even share it with a selected group of friends.

When you enable the subscription feature, apart from people adding you as friends, they can subscribe to your posts and when you update your status or share a link or an image, those who have subscribed will be notified about your posts. In order to allow subscribers to be notified about your updates and posts, you will have to change the post’s visibility settings to “Public”. Although you can set it as default, it is recommended that you select the visibility option on individual posts. This way, you can be sure that your privacy won’t be compromised.

Recently, Facebook changed the ‘Subscribe’ label to ‘Follow’. Facebook claims that this change will help people understand what they are doing. When someone clicks the new ‘Follow’ button, they will know that they are going to follow the person’s updates. The ‘Follow’ button has been widely used on various social media platforms and has been on WordPress and Twitter for a very long time. Most critics and web analysts say that this is a move to make Facebook look like Twitter.

Although the ‘Subscribe’ feature has not had huge success or following, this move might change it for good. Maybe the company believes that people will learn that the ‘Subscribe’ feature is similar to Twitter’s ‘Follow’. Nonetheless, we have to wait to see how the name change is received by Facebook users.

Poke on Facebook will make you unsecure

| Saturday, December 15, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

There is one feature on Facebook "Poke". A very common feature and maximum users do know that it exists. But I can assure you that maximum users who are familiar with the existence of this "Poke" feature don't exactly know what it does.

General definition of Poke is-

A “poke” is basically someone trying to get your attention. It’s one of the meaningless features that are used just to annoy someone.

Next Big things

But that’s not all. Learn the next big meanings of Poke feature.
If you poke someone not in your network and they poke back. You can view their profile even if your not their friend!
That means you make your hidden stuff on your profile page visible to that specific person with whom you just played poke-poke (you poked me I poked you back). Now, the question is- for how long the other user may get access to your profile? Well,
A poke is when you allow someone to see your Facebook page for 3 days, so they can know who you are and hopefully add you as a friend.

Why we have this feature then?

According to the use, this feature stands good. It is used to confirm a user before sending friend request. For example, you saw a user and you felt like he/she was with you back in High School, but you are not sure. You'll try to access profile to know a bit more, but that users has maximum of his profile hidden. So you'll poke.

A minor status update- Facebook

| Thursday, December 13, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Facebook has done a very minor update. But an update in an update. Previously status update frame showed a message asking you "Whats on your mind?".

Now it says, "What's up, |Username|?" This one is a direct question to the user. Not only that, the question that appears in the update status field is time specific, in evening it will say "How was your day, |username|?"

Now, it is a question what difference does that make, well you need to ask the Facebook staff. There must be some reason that made this change. I can't think one, but if you can then comment your thought below in comments.

Facebook's New Content Control Features Get Big Approval

| Thursday, December 13, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Even though we have all has our personal (and public) quarrels with Facebook this year in regards to privacy, they have gone on to prove that they aren't all that bad. Just today (12/12/12), the social network rolled out a new set of privacy and security features that should make it easier for users to manage their content.

As we have all grown increasingly worried into how much people get tap into our information, especially with this week's arrests of ten individuals who were running money stealing malware, we may have new reasons to feel a bit more confident.

The basics surrounding the privacy updates are in response to the most-asked questions that users have regarding their content. While it looks like the new update is still rolling out (I don't have it yet as of this writing), you should soon see a new icon between the “Home” page and basic settings in the top bar menu. When clicked, you'll have an option of three different “Privacy Shortcuts” including “Who can see my stuff?”, “Who can contact me?” and “How do I stop someone from bothering me?”.

According to Wired, the new feature will begin coming out towards the end the year – which I guess December 12th isn't quite close enough to yet.

Regardless, the new update should help users ease up their management of content – who sees what and who can contact them – as compared to the larger amount of steps in the past. All in all, the update acts as a major shortcut.

New Application Updates

On top of the improved privacy settings, the update comes with another new feature in regards to applications that you install. Remember in the past when you downloaded an app, and this absurd looking box would pop up with option after option into how the usage of the application gets shared with others?

Most of us just went along for the ride, only to end up sharing more content on our page that we really have wished for. I don't know about you, but I didn't really want people know what articles I read from what magazine at a precise time of day.

You won't have to worry about that anymore, since the app update makes it so that only two questions will now be asked. You'll first be asked if the app can access your public profile, then if you “would like to post to your friends on your behalf”.

A Note About Your Timeline

Another note worth mentioning comes courtesy of The Verge, and its something that I didn't even know until today. We've all had those posts we thought was a good idea to write and share for one minute, but then an hour later decided to delete. While you might have thought that it was wiped out from Facebook for good, it was actual still being seen on your friends' newsfeeds. Facebook will soon notify you of this the next time you delete something off of your timeline.

While we may not get as large of a say anymore when it comes to deciding on what Facebook does next, it looks like Facebook is slowly but surely catching on to the trends of 2012. Hopefully this will be a sign of more proactive movements on protecting our privacy in the future.

15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display - Review

| Thursday, December 13, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

It seems that Apple needs to do very less in order to have a huge fanfare for each of its products. This is owing to its whooping success in the past. The MacBook Pro lineup of MacBook seems to fall under this category. The gadget seems to have done no harm to Apple’s reputation with its elegant design complemented by powerful hardware.

New Updates

The 15 incher features a new i7 core processor from Intel. The new Apple machine also features a USB 3.0. However, the highlight of the updates is the Retina Display without compromising on any of the wonderful features that MacBooks are known to carry.

The laptop from Apple attracts those that want a large display and a powerful processing machine without the high-end graphic delights of the earlier version of MacBook Pro. One feature that exists in the 15-inch MacBook but does not in the earlier version of it is the ability to expand. The new Mac allows you to expand its hard drive and RAM as and when you want. If you do not want to use any of the expensive upgrades that Apple has in its baskets, then just go for the minimum rates when you make an upgrade.

Performance

MacBook Pro comes in a couple of variations and built-to-order models that allow you to configure models with quick processor speeds. The Pro has not altered much from the earlier versions with the same size, appearance and display. The biggest change however is its all-new i7 processor. The processors themselves come at high rates. One can expect a better performance on the processor front. A slightly faster memory in the form of a 1600 MHz processor improves its graphic performance as well. MacBook Pro uses a couple of new graphic systems with onboard HD Intel graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce.

For some advanced computing and mundane tasks, get help from the built-in Graphics system when required and you can also make a switch to NVIDIA chip when high performance is required. The entry level Intel Graphic properties of the 4000 system is much higher than the Intel Graphic properties of 3000 that is featured in last year’s models.

The battery runs up to 7 hours without being charged as Apple claims that the new Mac can offer much more. However, the improved graphic performance and the processors do not mean that your machine’s battery will be drained out in no time. The company manages to keep the same battery life tempo as in the case of last year.

To wrap it up

The new 15-inch MacBook Pro has everything that you would have seen in last year’s version. But it has some additions too. A bigger display, upgradable parts, slimmed-down case without sacrificing on performance and efficiency, optical drive are some of the additions. One weak point on the new MacBook is its increase in weight. The 5.6 lbs is heavier than the earlier models. The new 15-inch MacBook is definitely worth the price you pay. Go for it and you will not regret.

Wordpress 3.5 - Expected Features

| Tuesday, December 11, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

wordpress 3.5
December 5th is going to witness the launch of the WordPress 3.5 version. WordPress has an undefined rule of releasing new versions every six months and based on that the time has arrived for the release of a new version. WordPress is the best Content Management System in the whole world and a majority of the sites online have adopted WordPress. The previous version 3.4 created a great impact and 3.5 is expected to have some exciting features.  Let’s take a deep look at some of the features expected of it.

Twenty Twelve

Twenty Twelve is a default theme and WordPress 3.5 is expected to ship along with the theme. This theme is expected to have some strikingly stylish looks, responsive and elegant outlook and a few amazing enhancements. Features like Home Page templates, Mobile Responsive, Post Formats and Language Support (Left-to-Right) have some interesting changes worth exploring.

Media Library

The interface “Media Library” has been completely revamped. In this new WordPress 3.5 version, a new edit screen opens up when you like to make changes to an image. This complete post-like screen can be effectively used to edit alternate texts and captions like before. In short, it has been made to be more functional and user-friendly. Image manipulating software has been changed to deliver better results while resizing images.

Media Uploader

Media Uploader has also been completely transformed in the latest version WordPress 3.5. The old feature “Upload/Add” has been updated with a unique “Add Media” button. You can upload images on the interface at a much faster rate than before. Selecting images from media library is simple and the “drag & drop” option has been included additionally. The gallery thumbnails feature has been given extra importance as it was a failure in the previous versions.

oEmbeds

Popular sites like Vimeo, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr have interesting content and you might like to embed them in your WordPress site. This can be easily performed by merely pasting the URL of the content on the WordPress site. Content get attached and they will be displayed without the need to embed codes. The three new oEmbeds services in WordPress 3.5 are Instagram, SoundCloud and SlideShare. oEmbeds appear default in this new version and can be turned off if want. The maximum embed size is inherited directly from the theme and there is no more a dedicated settings page for it.

Links Manager

The “Links Manager” feature is disabled automatically in WordPress version 3.5. For all the new installs, the plug-in works behind the scene to duplicate all the functions related to Link Manager. This is a bold move taken by WordPress in its new version 3.5. Regular customers of WordPress who have used several versions of it have stated that the Link Manager has been rarely used even though it is a valued one.

Edit Screen

The “Edit Screen” option has been simplified to a great extent. WordPress works on improving its interface in every version. If you have a Retina display, you can experience the new look in the edit screen. Color Picker has been updated making it easier for you to choose colors. The HTML 5 tag, which was initially not supported, is now accepted by TinyMCE which triggers the visual edit buttons.

So bloggers, WordPress has decided to deliver the best every time, so that you get a good blogging experience. Will WordPress 3.5 meet today’s standards? The answer to this will be known within a few days.

How social networking might change the world

| Saturday, December 08, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Here is a few ways in which social media may change the world as we know it. They include small changes to our every day routine, to large changes such as removing dictator governments.

One day people may use social media as a way of avoiding people by pretending they are not in.

People do not answer their landline if they want to pretend they are not in, but now people have mobile phones, which (due to their mobile nature) are always with people. So they have no excuse to not answer the phone. Sooner or later--social media will be so good at tracking people’s movements that people will be able to fake a location, so that it looks like they are not home, even though they are. Some tablet device apps already have similar locator technology, which can be faked to make it appear as if you are at home ill when you are supposed to be at work.

One day a small child may gain a following higher than that of well-known celebrities and media whores.

Even though common everyday folk have social media profiles, there may one day be a person who gains a massive following through cleverly exploiting social media. This will not change the world because it is expected. It will change the world when a child does it and people realize that some young people are smarter than a number of older people.

One day a war may start up again because Pakistan accidentally clicked a Facebook "like" when India posted a message about a recent earthquake

There are plenty of misunderstandings on social media at the moment; it is only a matter of time before one of these misunderstandings happens on a global scale. One day a scientist may post his most recent invention on a social media platform. The scientist would be snubbed by the scientific community for seeking the glory without letting them look over the results, but the scientist may be addicted to social media and so not capable of communicating the with the outside world in a real and meaningful way. This would indicate that the social media has changed the world in making it so that people do not have to communicate with others (in real life) any more.

One day a social media site may gain such a following that dictatorship and corrupted governments may take notice.

Instead of the Americans moving in to remove dictators from power, some social media sites may get together and hold petitions where people sign up their name. This petition may be passed onto a dictator or corrupt government, who may then step down and hold free elections under the Geneva Convention of 1957.

One day a social media website may be so secure that people are able to vote on it in the presidential elections.

Even now, social media votes would be more secure than traditional voting (if Florida has any say in the matter). It is possible that one day people will be able to vote using social media websites.

Social media and TV will merge

This will mean that you can “like” a program as you watch it. You could even post about what you are watching, whilst you are watching it. You could interface with your friends so that it feels like they are actually there. That way you will not have to invite them round, which will mean you will not have to clean the house--which will free to you up to do other things--such as watch TV.

One day your religious leader will hold sermons over social media

Less and less people attend church, so eventually if Westerners are going to keep the faith (because easterners certainly are), then religious leaders are going to have to put down their pen and paper and join the online community. They will have to hold sermons over social media. They will probably hold wedding ceremonies over the Internet on social media--that way people will be able to get married over the Internet during the advertisement break.

| Thursday, December 06, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Internet is growing at a high frequency. Now, we know well that maximum revenue collected to run these internet services comes from advertisements networks.

Internet users are intelligent enough to distinguish a text ad from the rest of the content. Thus, ignoring them. This results in a lower CTR (Click Through Ratio). Lower CTR means lower revenue collection.
Google Adsense has put an effort to have higher CTR. For that, as you can see in the image above, all the text ads now have an arrow icon or a go button. The success of this effort highly depends on the user, how much the user is used to internet and these ads?

All text ads of every size unit available in Adsense will now have these buttons.

Bigger Ad Unit like 300 by 250 are now displayed as 3 separate text ad block each featuring its own 'go' buttons.

Looking for a tablet that combines productivity and entertainment? Well, your search is over then. Lenovo has dubbed the new IdeaTab S2110A as a premium entertainment tablet. Let’s take a closer look at the features of it to examine why this is so.

Design

At first glance, the IdeaTab S2110A looks very much like any other Android tablet. It is however, small and light, weighing only 580g. It is 8.7mm thick. Slip it into a bag and you’re set to go anywhere you want. The 10.1 inch display is enclosed by a 1 inch black bezel. There is a black textured thatch work pattern on the rear side and a matte grey band can be seen around the edges of the tablet. Hold it up in portrait mode and you will see the 1.3 mega-pixel camera. The 5 mega-pixel rear facing shooter is in the top right hand corner. There is no problem in disconnecting the tablet part. It disconnects and slips back into place easily enough.

Display

The screen itself is a 1,280 x 800 resolution with a brightness of 420 nits. The company is promoting its wide angle view, which is clear even under the harshest light. The wide angle view is 178 degrees and when viewed in a dark room, the display was fairly good from all angles. The IdeaTab’s screen has a 440 lux rating and is brighter than both the TF300 and the iPad. Colors are vibrant on this screen.

Software and Interface

The IdeaTab comes preloaded with the Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The usual Android navigation buttons (Recent Apps, Settings, Home, and Back) are present in the left hand corner of the screen. The five home screens are easily seen on this tablet as is the Android notification centre. The latter is located in the right corner of the display screen. You will find a change in the way you handle the home screen folders. The IdeaTab S2110A offers users large folder icons. You can store the apps in these folders which makes it much easier to view them on the home screens. Changes have also been made to the Android settings menu. Choose from the 9 different animations now present on the Preference Menu.

Performance

S2110A features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 clocked at 1GHz. It has 16GB of storage on board and 1GB of RAM. When tested, the performance of this tablet was up to the mark.

Audio: The IdeaTab is fitted with two slimline speakers which pump out a high volume of sound. This is due to the SRS TruMedia audio software. Audio quality is clear and crisp.

Virtual Keyboard

You will enjoy typing on the Lenovo IdeaTab S2110A’s virtual keyboard. This is because of the general responsiveness and large keys on this virtual keyboard. The tablet also includes the GO Keyboard virtual keyboard app.

Keyboard Dock

The keyboard dock on this tablet is a mixed bag of goodies. The keys are small but there is a 3 in 1 reader card and two USB2.0 ports on the left hand side. This dock offers expanded functionality.

Battery Life

The IdeaTab has a 2-cell lithium ion battery which lasts about 8 hour or so after continuous web browsing. Extend the battery life of this tablet by connecting it to the Keyboard Dock. You will get about 13 hours or so of battery life altogether.

Other features

There is a SIM card slot on select models. The tablet has a silver power button and a microphone on the top. It also comes with a micro HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is a camera and camcorder as well.
If you are on the lookout for an Android tablet that is excellent, look no further than the Lenovo IdeaTab S2110A.

Social Media Marketing Risks that You should be Aware of

| Thursday, December 06, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Social media is a powerful tool to promote your business. Even small business owners are on social sites to market their products and to get in touch with their customers. Opening an account with a social networking site and updating your business status and making announcements about offers and business improvements seem to be so simple that every employee wants to do the task. However, it is not as simple as it seems. Going social is like opening Pandora’s Box; you don’t know what will come out of it. However, it can’t always bring favorable results. However, if you are careful, you can avoid many problems. What are the risks associated with social media marketing?

Poor or no strategy:

Often, companies do not have a strong strategy when they go social. Planning is something crucial and any small defect in it will lead to serious consequences and you can’t come out of it before doing enough harm to your business which will be reflected on it for quite some time. There are some organizations that don’t even form a strategy. Therefore, careful planning is what needs to be done before using social media as your marketing tool.

Leaning on tools:

There are some good social media tools that will help you reach out to your customers. These tools need to be used in order to get to your customers and promote your business. But many businesses go wrong by leaning too much on these tools. It has to be remembered that these are just tools; so, they can’t act with logical thinking. You will have to do your bit of work in order to promote your business in a healthy way. However, the power of these tools can’t be underestimated because they help a lot.

Lack of measuring tools:

Like all other promotional activities, the effectiveness of social media marketing should also be measured. You can find many tools scattered across the Internet claiming to help you measure the effectiveness of your social media activities. But not all of them help. You need to find the right tool for your business based on the scale of activity and other factors in order to measure the result properly. A particular tool which helps a business may not be effective for another business. Therefore, research on the different tools available and decide on one tool which will help you best.

Lack of attention

Another risk is the lack of knowledge of what is going on in the field. All of your competitors are there on the Internet trying to grab the opportunity to get some of your customers. Therefore, you have to be on the lookout for any such activity and take appropriate measures. Look around the Web and observe what your competitors are doing to promote their businesses and redesign your strategies to match the competition. Just mimicking their strategy won’t help at all. Make different strategies so that your customers stay with you and new customers join you.

These are some of the risks associated with social media marketing. Taking appropriate measures at the right time will help you reduce these risks and evade all the bitter results.

Twitter is a micro blogging platform. With twitter you can connect to a number of people. It is not necessary that you know the individual that you are connecting with. This feature makes twitter a great platform for small as well as big companies, celebrities, blogger, etc.

Ubuntu is a free, world'd third most popular operating system. I won't say that ever user must switch to this platform, because of its great features, and blazing fast execution. It is a platform that can be given a try, even if you are a Windows user.

Now, twitter can be accessed via browser in Ubuntu, but there is no fun in that. There must be client to access your tweets and get notified automatically.

Social Networking Advantages for Businesses

| Sunday, December 02, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

Whether you’re a small local business or an MNC, social networking is something that you need to take notice of. A major chunk of your customer base is socially active on various networks, and this becomes a great way to get in touch with them.

Gone are the days when advertising was the only way you could connect with your customers. With the explosion of popular sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and many more, companies have jumped onto the social media bandwagon.

The small business and social media

While MNCs were bound to make the move first, small businesses have caught up, and how! A recent survey (carried out across United States) found that out of 600 small business owners, 90% of them were active on social networking sites. The bottom line is that you need to stay in touch with your customers as much as possible. This is even more crucial for small businesses that are looking to create a deep relationship with customers.

If you’re still not convinced about the importance of social networking for your business, here are a few advantages that you just cannot ignore.
Improves your brand image: When you have a Facebook and/or Twitter profile, your fans and followers will familiarize themselves with your brand image. This is helpful in building up a following that recognizes your company image whenever it pops up anywhere. It’s a great way to enhance your brand on a larger platform.
  • Increase site traffic: Your social media pages are the perfect place to promote the official website of your brand. Many small businesses find that people spend more time on the Facebook pages of a brand than visiting the website. That’s why you should try to incorporate your site address into posts or tweets that you make.
  • Offer varied promotions: If you’ve been using Facebook pages for a while, you will know all about the promotional offers that you can come up with. There are various ways you can attract the attention of your followers. Tweet promotions can also help you offer your customers some great deals. This is especially important during the holiday season.
  • Build strong customer relationships: Identifying followers who are most interactive on your social media pages is a good idea. This way, you can offer them freebies from time to time, and it’s a good starting point to build customer relationships. The posts you make should be highly interactive and relevant so that followers feel the urge to comment.
  • Gain insights: Social media sites offers brands in-depth insights about follower behavior. This can give you a good idea of what kind of posts do well and which ones don’t. For the brand owners, this gives them practical information on how to frame posts and when to publish them.
  • Expand your market: The sharing features on social media sites are quite powerful and can turn out to be great tools for brands. If one follower shares a brand post with his/her friends, then that brand will gain quite a number of new fans.
Promoting your brand on a social networking site is not easy, but it is required in today’s day and age. Companies garner a lot of attention from their social media pages, and many have witnessed a rise in sales.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to social media promotion. The biggest advantage you get is that such sites offer a more personal approach. Brands can formulate their updates in such a way that followers can be attracted to the status updates, tweets, and other posts.

Whenever I was trying to access my blog using Mozilla Firefox, I was being asked for a username and password. A dialog box was popping up saying Authentication Required.
I was totally unaware of what it was. I felt my blog was hacked by someone. But the strange thing was that this dialog box was not showing up on other browsers. the next thing that cam to my mind was, my browser Mozilla Firefox was effected with virus.

Cause of this problem

Well, I went through the codes of my template and found that it was all due to a JavaScript.

How to get rid of this?

  1. Just goto Template > Edit HTML.
  2. Use Ctrl+F to search googlecode.com
Now, just delete the codes shown in the box above. Save the template.

What are these codes?

Well, these are codes to display pagination (Page numbers). You might have gone through a tutorial on the web that tells you how to add this pagination feature. The JavaScript provided in that tutorial causes this error.

Removing CSS

You have removed the JavaScript but along with that there are some codes in the CSS that helps the browser in displaying the page numbers. It is not necessary to remove these CSS codes but unused code causes increase in loading time of your page. So let us decrease the loading time

Just delete the CSS codes shown in the box above. You are done.

DirectX 11.1 (3D) Feature Exclusively on Windows 8

| Monday, November 26, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

The latest upgrade to DirectX, Microsoft’s collection of APIs for gaming and multimedia programs, will be available solely to Windows 8 users. Previous versions of Windows have been excluded from this update, the chief feature of which is native support for stereoscopic 3D. So those of you who are still battling with the decision of whether or not to upgrade to Windows 8 may find this new feature to be just the reason to flip over to the other side.

A look at the new functions that Microsoft has added to DirectX 11.1 would make it seem as though Microsoft has made this upgrade exclusive to Windows 8 as a means to make people adapt the new OS. The most significant feature added in this DirectX update is the native stereoscopic 3D support. Before this update game developers had to incorporate stereoscopic 3D support directly in the software and program it keeping specific graphics cards in mind that would be able to support it. In any case, stereoscopic 3D is a feature that most gamers don’t seem to take much advantage of. But those who want to play PC games in the future with native stereo-3D support would definitely need to upgrade to Windows 8.

DirectX 11.1 will be compatible only with Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012. Microsoft has no plans to make DirectX 11.1 work with Windows 7 or Vista. Microsoft says that DirectX 11.1 is exclusive to Windows 8 the way DirectX 11 was to Windows 7. But while Microsoft had later made DirectX 11 available for Vista, as of now it has no plans to make DirectX 11.1 available to any other Windows versions.

But the fact that you can get DirectX 11.1 only if you’re a Windows 8 user should not necessitate a shift to that operating system considering most games these days still continue to be based on the older DirectX 9. Although developers have started to make games for DirectX 11 that works on Windows 7 systems now, it’ll still be a long time till there will be extensive support for DirectX 11.1. Thus, there doesn’t seem to be any need to switch to Windows 8 only for the purpose of being able to use the newest DirectX update.

However, it is possible that Microsoft doesn’t retrofit DirectX 11.1 for any older Windows versions the way it did for DirectX 11. And in that case any future updates it may have planned for DirectX would probably require multimedia users and gamers to move over to Windows 8 to access other important features. But for the present, only those of you who have to use a lot of 3D software need to worry about upgrading to Windows 8 and benefiting from the stereoscopic 3D support.

Ultimately it depends on whether or not developers make use of the new features exclusive to DirectX 11.1 in their software. If not, then there seems to be no reason to worry about not having a DirectX 11.1 supported Windows OS.
