Charging pauses in Android Devices

| Tuesday, January 29, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Android Operating System has a great functionality that pauses charging  if temperature of the battery is too high or too low. Well, it is a known fact that high temperature is an enemy of every type of battery.

temperature dependent charging

Android devices uses Li-ion batteries, and the charging temperature of these batteries is 0°C to 45°C, whereas  tolerance span while discharging is pretty wide ranging from -20°C to 60°C. This higher lets your phone work even at very low and high temperatures.

At higher temperature there is an increased charging/discharging but batteries suffers shorter life.

Li-ion batteries are unable to accept charge under freezing point. This doesn't mean only the outside temperature but the temperature of the battery which may be higher due to constant usage or by the heat of your palm. Indoor temperature may vary too.

WARNING: If you encounter such cases don't try to heat your battery by flame, these batteries will catch fire, in worst cases burst too.

Samsung's Upcoming 5.8-inch 'Galaxy Fonblet'

| Thursday, January 24, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

The rapid rate at which new state-of-the-art devices are being announced is indeed impressive. Equally impressive, it appears, is the rate at which new names are being conjured by technology companies to suit these very devices! The latest portmanteau twist comes from Samsung who, insiders believe, have recently heralded the “Galaxy Fonblet,” a massive 5.8-inch gadget blending the virtues of a smartphone and a tablet.

What’s interesting is that Samsung have not officially announced the Galaxy Fonblet yet. Rumors about the Galaxy Fonblet became viral when SamMobile, the definitive information source for all things Samsung, featured the proposed specifications and images of the upcoming launch on their pages. From then on, various online forums have propounded their own theories regarding the facets that the Fonblet could acquire.

With the above in mind, here’s more about this keenly anticipated, intriguingly-named hybrid device:

Looks and Structure

Upon first sighting the internet images, the Galaxy Fonblet appears remarkably analogous to Samsung’s Galaxy Player (5.8), which is available solely in South Korean markets.

The display, unquestionably, is the outstanding attribute – a gargantuan 5.8-inch AMOLED capacitive display possessing a 960 by 540-pixel resolution. These stellar display facets should accord excellent visuals suffused with bright colors, precise detailing, enviable black-and-white reproduction, and superior contrasts. The viewing angles and screen density is also expected to be of a high standard. The touchscreen functionality is likely to be enhanced by a combination of the proprietary TouchWiz know-how along with Motion user design.

Continuing with the device’s likeness to the Galaxy Player, the Fonblet will most probably sport a large chiselled white chassis with minimalist controls at the front and rear. Similarly, the bottom side segment will contain a grille external speaker, the rear segment will house a 3-megapixel camera, and the screen will embed a VGA front-facing camera. The Fonblet’s dimensions are expected to be in the 165 by 86 by 11-milimeter range making the device slightly onerous to hold, carry, and operate.

The Fonblet will be available in either a black or pristine white shade.

Connectivity

A major connectivity highlight is the provision for two SIM cards. Besides this, the Galaxy Fonblet is set to feature ports for micro USB, headphones, and even micro SD (supporting up to 32GB of additional memory). Moreover, T-DMB (for high-frequency transmissions), Bluetooth (4.0), Wi-Fi, and Assisted GPS functionalities may also be included.

Internal Attributes

  1. The Galaxy Fonblet will probably entrench a 1GHz dual core central processor like the Galaxy Player and possess 1GB of RAM to collectively make the device responsive and adept at multitasking.
  2. The Fonblet will ship with either Android 4.1 or 4.2 (Jelly Bean) as the operating interface. This should come in handy considering the entire arsenal of Google and Android applications that will be at one’s disposal.
  3. The device will contain a battery rated 2500mAh or higher signifying good sustenance on a single charge.

Closing Remarks

Samsung is slated to formally release the Galaxy Fonblet at the Mobile World Congress in February. If the aforementioned features indeed prove true and if the price is right, the product may turn out to be a winner!

Learn Web Design and Development for free

| Wednesday, January 23, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Prerequisite for every web based course whether it is web designing or web development is the basic knowledge of HTML and CSS. The second on the list is JavaScript and jQuery. These courses are available online to learn and that too for free.

Codecademy

There are a great number of tracks available at codecademy. Web Fundamentals track that covers HTML and CSS. JavaScript, jQuery, Ruby and Python. All the tracks are divided into units. These units are divided into sections and each section has exercise. This layout is more like book but editor and console makes this book highly interactive and thus focuses on practical aspects.
free online web development course
Editor and console
After completing the required courses you may start learning a great track that I didn't mentioned in the list above, and that is a track dedicated to API.

W3Schools

Well, there is no free site on the web having content greater than this. You'll find HTML, HTML5, CSS, CSS3, Ajax, JavaScript, PHP, XML, ASP.NET, and son on. But the greatest problem that you may encounter is the practical version. Even after you have learned web designing and start to apply then this may also serve as a great reference guide. But even after going through the conetent you may still be unable to apply the knowledge you gained.

phpacademy.org

This portal contains videos on YouTube and the site is completely free. Unless you want to download the video series. If you like the content then you may donate. The site is an excellent platform for learning PHP, MySQL, CodeIgniter (PHP framework), CSS. The best part is that maximum videos are of short duration.

NOTE- If you have good amount of time then you can learn a lot, though this is also true that you may still need to struggle  also non of these are as good as paid course but still if you compare the price then these are best. So, don't compare these with paid courses and classes.

Is Technology Really Changing Our Identity?

| Wednesday, January 23, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

A report released this week by the UK Government’s Chief Scientist has suggested what many of us have suspected for years – the way we operate and portray ourselves through social online platforms is redefining personal identity. While social media commentators in the past have varied from calling such channels a key staging post in the evolution of humanity to decrying them as the work of the devil, this new report raises a number of questions around how technology helps to shape our identity.

We explored how social technology is changing our lives, and what it means for us.

Are We All Celebrities?

Something that we regularly hear celebrities criticized for is that no-one knows who the ‘real’ person is. That is why there is horror across the media whenever a journalist hears a celebrity swearing, or dissing someone that they dislike. Sometimes they might even show their human side on Twitter, at which point all bets are off as we dive into a sea of ‘OMG they are so fake I’ll never watch their show again.’

However, that is what social media is doing to members of the public around the world on a daily basis. While some use their feeds for pictures of their children or their dinner, for others it is a platform for pontificating. Whether it is the latest release of crime figures, a celebrity death, or economic news, many of us head to social media to say ‘the right thing,’ even if it completely contradicts what we’ll say in the pub, later.

Social technology means that everyone, not just celebrities, now have a public and a private persona.

Where else is this apparent?

Online Dating

In many respects, online dating was the forerunner of what we term as modern social media. You put your profile up, post your best picture, and wait for people to contact you. While there have been many success stories from online dating, as relationship figures would suggest, there are also many instances of people thinking they were meeting Mr or Mrs Perfect, only to later realise that the reality didn’t quite match the carefully crafted description.

Changing the Face of Business

Social technology isn’t just changing personal lives, but is also reshaping the business landscape as we know it.Businesses are definitely an example of how social technology can be used to alter an identity in a positive manner, as they are now able to demonstrate a human voice in addition to what many will view as the ‘corporate image’ and reputation of a company.

Technology, and specifically social media, is changing the way we identify ourselves, businesses, and many other aspects of life. While these changes appear to be positive, they will need to be continued monitoring of trends in years to come. Social media will be rendered useless if it becomes humans’ only means of communication.

Microsoft Surface Pro - Early Review

| Monday, January 21, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Though Microsoft was not present at the recently concluded CES in Las Vegas, it did manage to give visitors some information on Microsoft Surface Pro Tablet. The Pro tablet kind of looks more like a laptop and does indeed have a full blown Windows 8 OS. Powering the tablet is i5 processor from Intel, though nothing much is known about the clock speed as of now. In looks it is very much like Surface RT, though much better in many ways. The Surface it may be remember actually runs a sliced down version of Windows 8 that wouldn't let you install older software though they may be compatible with earlier Windows releases.

The Surface Pro is a little thicker than the RT and that you feel the moment you lift it by your hands, but when simply seen them placed alongside, you will not perceive it though. The molded magnesium body, the ergonomic 22 degree stand is all the same as in the RT. At 900 g, that is just a little more than half the weight of a comparable laptop, it is all power and pushes with a 4GB RAM to back its performance. The Surface Pro includes an in-built graphic processor which makes it all the more powerful.

If everything goes as planned, then the Surface Pro will hit the stands around the last week of January this year, and in all probability will be competing with Apple’s iPad. However, not much can be said about the performance due to the fact that the Pro isn't much to talk about when it comes to battery life. If we are to believe those who have already had hands on experience, at 4-hour between-cycle recharge, that’s certainly a downer.

In terms of display too, the Surface Pro is very much in the mould of RT. Display size is 10.6 inch with the display bonded optically, but in terms of resolution it is far better with a 1366 X 768 true to life high definition capability. With this improvement it should be possible for the Pro to compete with Apple’s retina display products with confidence. Another notable feature that some users are reporting is the fact that it can be attached to a bigger monitor with the tablet acting as pad. That they attribute to the pen which comes with the Pro.

The only reason you may have to feel disappointed with the Pro is that it is neither a Tablet, for which it is too big and heavy, nor a laptop, for which it is too small. Adjusting the angle is not feasible and neither can it be used in portrait mode, because it has a 16:9 display ratio. If these two flaws really don’t matter to you, then you can consider it as an alternate to carrying a laptop around. The fact that there is going to be lots of Surface Pro apps in the future is a point in favor. Some even see the unveiling of RT and Pro as a prelude to Microsoft becoming a major hardware company in the immediate future.

5 Things that Could Get Your AdWords Account Suspended

| Saturday, January 19, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Pay-per-click advertising is an important way to drive traffic to your site. Google's AdWords is the number one PPC network used by most web masters. After all, Google is the biggest search provider, so it only makes sense that site owners want to advertise on the network to get the most traffic for their investment.

There are extensive rules associated with advertising on Google, and it is unlikely that most people who sign up for the service will read all of them. As a result, many people have found that their accounts were suspended very quickly after they ran afoul of rules without knowing it. Here are 5 things that could get your AdWords account suspended that you might not realize:

Refusal to Pay

You can challenge the validity of the clicks that you're campaign is receiving and refusing to pay. However, if you do this too often, Google will suspect you of committing fraud yourself and will suspend your account. By all means, if you really think that click fraud is being committed against your account, challenge the charges. However, if you are just trying to save a buck, be careful. Google will suspend your account, and you may never be able to get it back.

Site Violations

There are many, many violations that your site could commit with its content. However, the most common violations involve sites that have information about health care, pharmaceuticals and financial advice. These sites are often labeled "misleading" if you are not an expert in the field or do not have extensive disclaimers on your site about the information.

Landing Page Violations

When you link to a page in your ad, it must match the content of your ad. In other words, your ad can't promote an all-natural sweetener and then lead to a page that sells a weight-loss drug. Your landing page has to match your ad content, and the information contained there must be useful and relevant.

Affiliate Advertising

Google is not a big fan of affiliate advertising, and it comes down pretty hard on affiliate programs. If you are promoting affiliate products on your site, you need to make sure that you provide a good supply of other useful information to balance it out and that you do not overload your page with your affiliate links. Above all, Google wants to see that you are creating a good experience for the user, not just trying to sell them something.

Unclear Practices

If you set up a site simply to collect e-mails and other personal information for lead-generation purposes, you will likely have your site banned by Google. Again, the search giant wants to make sure that you are creating a quality experience for the user -- not just taking information

for your own gain. Make sure you that you make your practices clear, including what information you collect and why. Then be sure to provide plenty of useful content for your users.

There are so many rules in Google's terms of service that it is very easy to break one of them without knowing and to get your account banned either temporarily or permanently. These are just a few of the more common reasons why your account might be suspended, but it is worth learning the rules as thoroughly as you can to avoid any problems.

Has your Google AdWords account ever been suspended? Tell us about your experiences in the comments!

How to install WordPress on server

| Wednesday, January 16, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

The best way to practice WordPress installation in via Demo cPanel that is available as a Dashboard when you sign up or rent a web server. In this article I'll be using Demo cPanel of Bluehost.
  1. Go to BlueHost and click Demo cPanel link or click here.
  2. You'll get logged into Demo cPanel account. Select Simple Script in Software/Services tab.
  3. A Script List will open up there you can spot WordPress in Blogs category.
  4. On the next page you will see Install WordPress wizard with a number of external links pointing to official wordpress site, documentation, etc. Select "Install" button.
  5. The next page is divided into three steps. Step1: 1.1 Select the version of WordPress you want to install--- you need to install the latest stable version, placed on the top of drop-down menu. 1.2 Select where you want to get it installed? Now, you may have encountered that some blogs are accessed by accessing the home page URL (eg. www.sectortechno.com) while some blogs are accessed by sub-urls (eg. www.sectortechno.com/blog). Step 2:
You can select advanced options You can name you site, create username and password for your wp account, create databases (keep the box checked to create databases automatically).
    Step 3:
    Select plugins to install (optional).
    Step 4:
Accept the terms and conditions to use wp. Click Complete.
  6. It will take sometime, the installation progress will be shown on the last screen one its finished, you're done.
Now just practice to get acquainted to wp installation on server. Notice that this is a demo install, therefore, installation will never complete but it depicts the exact procedure.

How to insert your logo in your RSS feeds

| Friday, January 11, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Maximum users (publishers) use feedburner to publish their RSS feeds. A very powerful tool to gain readership on internet.

I have subscribed for email newsletter of my own blog. And above is the screenshot. Hopefully you have encountered my weblog's logo on upper right corner.

What is the advantage?

Well, apart from looking great, it helps you make your newsletter a bit more branded. Buying you domain is the first step to brand your blog/website. The second step is your logo and content.

How to place it?

  1. Log-in into your feedburner account.
  2. Go to Optimize Tab and then select Feed Image Burner.
  3. Put the url of your logo in Link field.
  4. Enter image title. Image title is 'alt text' it gets displayed if you logo cannot be displayed.
logo in email newsletter

Problem

Your logo image has a predefined dimensions of a maximum 144*144 pixel, i.e., your image must not exceed height and width of 144 pixels each. So you need to upload your logo according to above criteria.

How to upload the image?

Create a new blog post (in case you are using Blogger) and upload image in that post. Now, save the post as draft. Copy link of the image you have uploaded in your draft post and paste that in 'Link' field. A more detailed version of image upload and url is here. Now just 'save' and 'activate' this service.

After you are done with updating your email subscription with your own logo. You can brand your feeds with your own custom email, create custom confirmation mail. You can access all feedburner tutorials here.

Introducing Lenovo 'Yoga 11S' Fully Bendable Windows 8 Laptop

| Friday, January 11, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Lenovo created sensation in the tech world with the launch of their Yoga laptop for Win 8. This beast is a laptop with a bendable screen which can turn it into a touch screen tablet.

The keyboard and trackpad are both excellent and along with the touch screen experience of Win 8, it is an amazing experience altogether.

lenovo yoga
Quick look at the specs:
  • 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 chip
  • 4GB RAM
  • 10 pt multitouch IPS screen of 13 inches with 1600 x 900 pixel resolution
  • 128 GB SSD
  • One MP webcam
  • 8 hour battery life
  • Weighs 1.5 kg

As a Laptop

Its details make it an awesome Ultrabook, and the sensitive trackpad and keyboard with its brilliant display lets it double up as a superb laptop. You can actually scroll using two fingers. Only issue is that if you aren’t careful while typing you may activate the trackpad accidentally.

The build is robust, yet light enough to be portable. A special hinge on the screen lets you flip the lid all the way behind so that you can use it as a tablet. The keyboard is switched off when in tablet

As a tablet

Turning the Yoga 13 into a tablet lets you fully exploit the twofold nature of the Win8 OS. Though I must add here that the Yoga 13 makes a better laptop than a tablet; the chief reason being the size. Make no mistake, it’s not a bad touch tablet, it’s just cumbersome!

Landscape mode works better because of the resolution, adding to the unwieldiness of the device as a tablet.

Swiping gestures that are the most attractive feature of Win 8 are also a tad hard to execute here. You may have to repeat your action before achieving any results. You may also end up launching apps you didn't want, which can be pretty annoying.

As a hybrid

Being able to flip the display all the way behind means you can move the display in between the two: neither laptop nor tablet. This so called ‘hybrid’ mode is being propagated by the manufacturers as the ability to prop up the device like a tent. This is especially useful when you want to present something or just watch a video. While the Yoga 13 works well for both, I am doubtful whether it will be used for such a purpose very often.

The Metro style apps are really good, and this device runs them pretty efficiently on the big display. Windows 8 also lets you snap two apps beside each other; thanks to the wide angle display of this device, this feature works brilliantly here.

Windows 8 itself needs some time getting used to. You may be comfortably cruising in Metro mode when you touch something and you find yourself in the desktop mode pretty abruptly. When this happened, the windows are adjusted and the fonts are resized. Due to the high resolution, this happens too often for comfort, and the display on the desktop looks too small. That’s the main disadvantage I can cite for this device.

Conclusion

The Yoga 13 can be bought at a starting price of just $999. IT is an awesome laptop and the bending screen which allows its use in various positions adds to its functionality and appeal. If you use a laptop most of the time but wish for a tablet at times, then you can’t go wrong with the Yoga 13.

Facebook Gifts Will Now Include 'iTunes Credits'

| Saturday, January 05, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

The giant in technology, Apple and the world famous social network, Facebook have joined hands. This comes as no surprise, because it is likely that the two most successful companies in various fields combine to get more revenue. This has happened; Facebook has decided to add iTunes gift certificates to its popular Facebook gifts section. As a bonus, when you purchase an iTunes certificate, you can suggest your friends or family members on what to spend their gift certificate. The certificate is available for various amounts of money and starts from $10 and moves upward.

iTunes is one of the best and popular presents, and Facebook has taken the right decision by adding it to its gift store. This change will definitely boost the sales in Facebook’s Gift Store. Although Facebook will have to share 30% of the margin with Apple, the results that add to the already famous social networking site are going to be mind-blowing. The margin split is released, but the revenue split is maintained highly confidential. Both the partners are free from shipping costs, and Apple does charge app developers about 30% for their content to be sold in iTunes. So, how much Apple and Facebook make out of this and in what percentage they share the revenue is still unknown.

This is the latest development between Apple and Facebook after the social network was included in iOS6. Prior to this, Facebook social context and sharing buttons found a place in iTunes. If the latest tie-up turns in to a success sharing, news about the purchase of an iTunes credit will increase in Facebook. Looking at the efforts that Facebook takes, I guess it is hard for any other social network to occupy its place. Good to go Facebook.

The merge with Apple is a big day for Facebook because iTunes has made their gift store special. Earlier, the gift store was available only to a handful of people, but now Facebook has rolled it out to millions of customers and added loads of gift vendors. So, from now on, apart from wishing your friend on his/her birthday, you can also send them a gift. Gift ideas can also be shared and Facebook seems rather serious in its ecommerce business.

Purchasing an iTunes gift from the Facebook gift store is a gentle process. All you have to do is simply select a friend to whom you wish to gift something and select the amount of money you like to put on the gift certificate. You also have the option to suggest gift ideas, so that they can pick one easily. Ideas can be chosen from “Top Albums” or from the traditional method of using the search box. The gift will now be wrapped and it will appear on their Timeline and remain there until it is opened. The process itself sounds interesting and I am sure this will tempt many to purchase iTunes gifts.

Facebook can implement this new feature in a smart way and make more revenue. It should analyze to display different gift lists to various devices. For example: A customer who has records using Facebook from his/her smartphone can be suggested with gifts related to their phone. Facebook can also recommend gifts based on the likes and interests of people. For example: A Starbucks card will be a perfect gift for Android app Facebook customers.
