Create custom sized Adsense ad units

| Saturday, December 21, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Google Adsense recently rolled out 'Custom Ad Size' option, that lets users create ad units with various sizes as per publishers requirements. Till now, every user was bound to use, ad sizes from four predefined ad size category namely,
  • Horizontal
  • Vertical
  • Square
  • Link Units
Now, adsense user can select 'custom ad size' and place in their own size and adsense will generate the codes for that size for you.

How to create custom ad size ads?

  1. Login in into your Adsense account.
  2. Navigate to 'My ads' tab and click 'New ad unit' button.
  3. Select 'Custom ad size' option from 'Ad size' dropdown menu.
In case you have created an image ad unit or image/text ad unit, then the image ad will display and image ads are of fixed sizes. So, any image ad will adjust itself by aligning to the center. But,

adsense ad unit problem
The above one, is a custom size ad unit, with an image ad that is smaller in height and width. Now, the image ad gets aligned to center horizontally but leave blank white space vertically.

Existing Ad units

If you already have ad fixed sized ad units, they cannot be converted into 'Custom Ad Size' ad unit, you are required to create a new ad unit and the select 'custom ad size'.

Google Affiliates for blogger: A new way to earn

| Thursday, April 19, 2012 | | | Be first to comment!

Google Affiliates Ads for Blogger is basically a tool to get the exact ad you are blogging about. Display it on your page and whenever a user clicks and make purchases you get your commission. Revenue will be paid in the same Adsense account.
The new service is just like Amazon affiliates network. You will get commissioned for products sold, not for getting a click generated. The commission is basically calculated by calculating the fraction which will be a specific amount. Therefore, if the product sold is expensive then you will get higher commission. Unlike Adesnse you are not bound with higher CTR to get higher earnings, instead a high amount product will do. But this entirely depends on what quality traffic you are getting.

Why to blend Adsense ads.

| Tuesday, March 06, 2012 | | | | Be first to comment!

Now, if Google provides you with tools to customize you ad template. Then why not use it. And of-course doing that never means your cheating.
The thing is simple. Imagine a site with green template. The owner applies for Google Adsense.

Gets approved. Now what, your Adsense template is of white color and that is on a green background. The Adsense template that you got for your good now serves nothing more than a spot. And you know what, spots are better on animals than on your site.
So, why not blend it. You know nowadays people are wise enough to distinguish an ad from the content. So this makes it necessary to blend. But you need to have higher CTR in order to collect maximum money out of it.
The art of getting higher CTR don't only lies in great quality content. It lies in checking ignorance of your ads made by users.

What is CTR?
CTR is click-through-ratio, that is, percentage or ratio of your page-views successfully getting converted into clicks.

How to blend the best?
Simple, open the adsense customization option, from Layout, click edit Adsense (in the Gadget). Now just try to match the adsense template to the template of your site.

Do's and Dont's in Blogger and Adsense

| Monday, March 05, 2012 | | | Be first to comment!

In primary classes we read Do's and Dont's.
But here I'm giving you some Dont's that change themselves to Do's just because of a little ignorance.

Avoid overlapping
When you place two or three ads on a page. One big mistake that happens is they overlap. This thing can be easily overcome by adjusting width, of the body and sidebars.

Avoid image ads
In some past days, while surfing through some sites. I found myself busy avoiding and overlooking image ads. Then I wondered why still I have image ads on mine. The reason is simple the one paying for the large single image ad, obviously would be paying large. And if he is paying large than I would receive large. But what's the use of a large paying ad that won't get clicked. Only because it clearly says "I'm ad Ad".
Now, there's one big advantage, but only to advertisers and that's image ads catch ones eye and along-way avoid the click too. So these pay per click ads advertise without getting clicked. The first thing I did was, you know, now I only have text ads going on my site.

Avoid too narrow post body
If you have gone through other's blogs. Then you must have found that atleast one out of thirty blogs have a very narrow post body. Buddy, that looks way too weird. When you set your post body width always remember, nowadays fourteen to twenty inches LCD's are very common. And most users do have it. Even mine is eighteen and a  half. So adjust the width of entire blog round 'bout 900 pixels. I've set mine to 'bout 1000 pixel.

Avoid too many gadgets
As a beginner, I always loved too have too many gadgets in my side bars. But now I feel having 'em all was just because of newness of interest. That is, just like being a child who is attracted by new toys.

Is my account information secure on Google Adsense

Google uses standard SSL technology to protect your information. Taxpayer ID numbers are in encrypted format, this provides information with additional security. Google can share this information with trusted third parties for the purpose of verifying your identity.
Don't worry.

What is SSL technology-secure socket layer.

Earnings on hold Google Adsense

| Wednesday, February 29, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

When I logged into my Google adsense page. It says earnings on hold. This is basically due to incomplete Adsense profile. In the image above the earnings are below threshold. But that is not the reason even if the earnings are above threshold you won't receive any payment in any form.

How to complete profile

  1. Address verification- Google needs to verify your address, for that Google will contact you on the address given in profile and will send you a verification PIN. Enter that verification PIN.
  2. Payment method not selected- There are many options, how you want to receive your payments. Select one.
  3. Tax information- Google needs your tax information. Is my information safe on Google.
  4. Payment threshold- You need to reach minimum paymant threshold, for payments to be made.
After your profile is complete.

Understanding Adsense Performance reports

| Wednesday, February 29, 2012 | | Be first to comment!

This graph is available in the performance tab of the Adsense.
Check the boxes to see in graph.

Q. What is-

Estimated earnings- Your account balance for the time period selected. This amount is an estimate that is subject to change when your earnings are verified for accuracy at the end of every month.
Page views- A page view is generated every time a user views a page displaying Google ads. We will count one page view regardless of the number of ads displayed on that page.
Clicks- For standard content ads, the number of times that a user clicked an ad. For link units, the number of clicks received by ads on a page resulting from a link click.
Page CTR- Page click-through rate (CTR). The number of clicks received divided by the number of page impressions.               CTR= clicks/page views
CPC- (Cost-per-click) Amount that an advertiser pays each time ad is clicked. In your reports, your CPC column reflects your estimated earnings divided by the number of clicks that you've received.
Page RPM- Total earnings divided by one thousand page views.
Well you can get these terms by clicking the '?' icon.
What is actually paid?

Basic concern of beginners viewing adsense performance report

Basic concern of beginners viewing adsense is what you will be paid.

If you look at the totals you'll be confused. Should I add them all or anything else. But you don't have too. Basically it's the esimated earnings that you are paid. And the estimated earnings are a bit lower from what is displayed on your Adsense dashboard.

After end of each month, your adsense total earnings are recalculated and finalized which results in a bit lower. Actually, your total revenue collected is verified and the end of each month. This results into some deductions.

AdSense approval (Issue:Page type)

| Tuesday, May 31, 2011 | | 2 Comments so far

In my previous going days I was not able to get my AdSense account approved. The following message was mailed to me after consideration of my application. I searched a lot but was never able to find why was my application rejected. I posted my problem in AdSense thread but never got any reply.

I was getting the following reply
I felt like it was due to copied content that I had in two of my blogs. I pondered a lot and ended up by deleting those two blogs of mine, and it worked. Now, I have my AdSense account approved and well going. So you need to post original content of yours.
