Add your feeling, what you are watching, having on Facebook

| Thursday, May 30, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Facebook rolled out a new innovation to put a better status on your Facebook timeline. This feature is an extension to, who you are with (adding other users), place and photos.

The best part still is that you can add who you are with, and it will get appended to your status. Similarly, you can add location and photos for sure.

Feeling

Under feeling you can add a smiley with a word that exactly specifies how you are feeling. It has a range of predefined smiley's. But it still allows you to add anything custom, like adding a word in your own language and then choosing a closely related smiley. This time your status will show the smiley with your own custom word.

Now, because of this custom word addition the smiley list becomes endless.

Watching

Well, this is not only about movies or TV shows. What this does is that, it searches for Facebook fan pages and upon your selection it adds them.

But the selection is primarily based on the type of status you are adding. For example, if you are adding watching then the genre of Facebook fan page. But the search is not limited to this, that is, you can always add a book with "watching".

Drinking

Add what you are drinking. Tea, coffe, or the best custom. And as it adds Facebook page, so you are always free to drink "titanic","The A Team", etc.

Eating

Add what you are eating. With this too you can eat almost anything but within the status.

Limitations of Facebook's new status innovation

The biggest limitation is that you can add one thing at a time. So, if you are watching a movie and getting bored or great, you cannot add both of these at the same time within a single status.

More Limitations

You cannot add any user. For example, you are "beating" somebody.

The Pros and Cons of HTML5 in Mobile Gaming

| Wednesday, May 29, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Mobile video games comes in all shapes, sizes, and experiences. From shooters to side-scrolling adventures, our smartphones have the ability to access literally tens of thousands of games in accordance to just about any preference. For the most part, iOS users' view the App Store as their number one resource for gaming seeking, while Android owners find their downloading home in Google Play, but there is another option for both parties. Unrestricted by operating system, and considered quite a controversial direction for mobile gaming is HTML5.

Cross Platform

Also called browser gaming, HTML5 is a technology that deviates from the native app stores by welcoming cross platform gaming. As promising as it sounds, much of the gaming community is wholly opposed to HTML5 development. There are a few key factors in this debate. For one, gaming within a browser has some notable issues, performance being one of them. Complex animations have a tendency to render slowly in many mobile browsers making playing high-quality games an arduous chore. As an added blemish, on its own, HTML5 does not support native device features such as vibration, gyroscopic functionality, accelerometer utilization, and the camera use which limits the potential experience from the beginning.

Unlike Google Play for Android games and apps and the Apple App Store, there is no designated distribution outlet for browsers. Word of mouth is one way to spread popularity, but for HTML5 to really take off, there must be a well-known collective of easily accessible games and apps for users to explore and download. Plus, there are several issues that need to be addressed before HTML5 can gain more mainstream gaming cred: the fact that mobile gaming via browsers often features broken audio, that it doesn't allow for direct messaging via push notifications, and that it lacks an in app-payment solution are further blips on the HTML5 radar.

Criticism

Despite a ton of criticism, it's not all bad. In fact, some experts believe that HTML5 will become prominent in the future of mobile gaming. Versatility is one huge factor. With a single code base, developers can deploy a game across a variety of devices with ease. This makes it possible for iPhone users to play along with Android users for example. Also, the click then play functionality makes for a smoother, faster experience. Rather than visiting the App Store or Google Play, finding the game, making the purchase, downloading the file, installing the app, THEN playing; HTML5 gaming is available with a single click. There are no plugins to worry about, no need to download anything or update the game prior to play, everything is done by developers live.

Technologies Integration

Not to mention, browser gaming is a much cheaper alternative compared to native gaming. HTML5 is a free, open technology. The only cost is derived from the developers/designers needed for game production. As an additional note, many of the problems previously discussed with HTML5 can be solved with new innovations. With the use of tools such as the Cloud Compiler and JavaScript extension APIs, developers can override issues with distribution, monetization, messaging, and even the native device features. These workarounds nearly eliminate all of the main criticisms that have been thrown at HTML5, but many simply do not know about these resources.

Apple Game VS Android Game

Right now, the battle between native gaming, that of Apple and Android-specific games, and gaming within a browser isn't much of a competition. The popular OS undeniably dominates the market but with all of the improvements and benefits of HTML5, browser gaming could very well become a serious contender within the mobile gaming industry.

Host feedburner feeds with your own domain name

| Saturday, May 25, 2013 | | 3 Comments so far

Feedburner users are required to access their feeds via the feeds.feedburner.com URL. And thus all the feeds are accessed via feedburner's domain name.

My own feeds address was feeds.feedburner.com/blog/sectortechno which is now changed to feeds.sectortechno.com/blog/sectortechno. Feedburner allows its users to redirect to their own domain name. After setting up this you can access your entire feedburner account with your own domain name like I can now access using feeds.sectortechno.com.

How to redirect my feeds to my own domain name?

To set up the redirect you are required to perform the following two steps-
  1. Set up CNAME in your DNS.
  2. Set up redirect URL.

Set Up CNAME

launch domain in godaddy
Step 1: Launch Domain

New DNS Manager in GoDaddy
Step 3: DNS Manager
  1. Log in into your Domain Provider's account (GoDaddy in this case) and go to 'My Account'.
  2. 'Launch' domains or expand domains by clicking the '+' icon and then 'launch' the domain from the list that you want to associate with Feedburner redirect.
  3. Navigate to 'DNS Manager' and click 'Edit Zone'.
  4. Scroll to 'CNAME (Alias)' and at the bottom of CNAME entries you will find 'Quick Add' button.
  5. Click 'Quick Add' button.
  6. Enter 'feeds' or any subdomain host where you like to host your feeds, (refer to Set Up redirect URL, step 4).
  7. In the next 'Points to' field you are required to paste value you obtained from Set Up redirect URL step 3.
  8. Set TTL value to 1 Hour.
  9. Click 'Save Zone File'.
It will take be effective within 1 Hour (generally), sometime it may take upto 48 hours, but don't worry it will get updated within a single hour. So, wait before performing step 5 in Set Up redirect URL, you will encounter an error while in step 5 until you have your CNAME updated.

To kill the mean time you can try how to set automatic redirection from non-www to www domain name in Blogger, or learn how to change feed address or Set Up autopublish feeds to twitter.

Set Up redirect URL

redirect feedburner feeds to your own domain name
Points to value: CNAME (Alias)
  1. Log-in into your Google account.
  2. Go to Feedburner's MyBrand.
  3. You will find a list of three steps, copy the 'Points to' value from the yellow colored highlighted area. Value is like xxxxx.feedproxy.ghs.google.com, here lnvn6jn.feedproxy.ghs.google.com.
  4. In the second step on 'MyBrand' page, enter your sub-domain where you will like to have your feeds redirected. Like feeds.sectortechno.com in my case. Now, you know that the data entered in Set Up CNAME, step 6 and here must be same.
  5. Click 'Activate' button'.
add more than one sub-domain for feeds in feedburner
Add another domain
In case you are running more than one blog and thus, you own multiple domain names with every blog using Feedburner. Then you can enter multiple sub-domains pointing to feeds by using 'Add another domain'.

What's left?

  1. Well, you still need to update feeds address in your blogger. To do so navigate to access your blog, navigate to 'Settings' then 'Other', now enter your new feed address.
  2. Furthermore, you are required to update your feed readers counter chicklet.
  3. Update your subscription form.
All services will remain active and functional with the older address, but still to show off you must update. Access all feedburner tutorials here.

Google Buzz is shutting Down

Google announced the closure of its Google Buzz (a social networking, micro blogging) service in October 2011. Google will take final step towards shutting down Buzz on and after 17th of July 2013.
Google Buzz is shutting down, the final step
Google Buzz Logo
A backup copy of entire Buzz account will automatically get saved on Google Drive. But space consumed will not be charged against Google Drive storage.

Backup can also be taken using Google Takeout, a service to take backups of all or any selected Google service.

What data will be backed up?

  1. The first type of file will be private, only accessible to you, containing a snapshot of the Google Buzz public and private posts that you authored.
  2. The second type of file will contain a copy of only your Google Buzz public posts. By default it will be viewable by anyone with the link and may appear in search results and on your Google Profile (if you've linked to your Buzz posts). Note, any existing links to your Google Buzz content will redirect users to this file.
  3. Any comments that you made on other users' posts will only be saved to those users' files and not to yours. Once the change described in this email is final, only that user will be able to change the sharing settings of those files. This means that if you have commented on another author's private post, that author could choose to make that post and its comments public. If you would like to avoid that possibility, delete all your Buzz content now.
  4. The new Google Drive files will only contain comments from users who previously enabled Google Buzz, and the files will not contain comments that were deleted prior to moving the data to your Google Drive.

Top 5 Bluetooth headset

| Sunday, May 19, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Bluetooth headset is the most common gadget for mobile phones today. This headset is very popular because is can really make your life easier. You can drive, shop, walk or just clean your house with them on. At first, people used them just to answer and take calls, but today, you can listen to music, even dictate text for SMS on your mobile. Due to their popularity, there are many models, sizes and brands. Here are one of the best headsets on the market:

1.JAWBONE ERA

Jawbone ERA is one of the best mono headset on the market. It goes in one ear and it is so comfortable you'll forget about it after few hours. It is compatible to almost every mobile phone, iPhone, Blackberry or Android phone. You can pair up to 8 devices and have 2 active Bluetooth connections. It has 10 mm wideband speaker for excellent sound. Sound quality is perfect, there aren't any background noises due to the noise filtering. Battery life is rather good, you can talk for 5 hours straight or leave it on standby for 10 days without charging.

2.PLANTRONICS BACKBEAT GO

Plantronics Backbeat Go is a stereo Bluetooth headset with unique design. It ii very simple. Generally, this headset consists of 2 earbuds with cable between them. This headset is rather lightweight and small so they are the best for jogging or doing some activity. With them you'll get three different sizes of earbuds, to fit in every ear. The range of Bluetooth connection is very good, around 20 m. The sound quality is very good even for listening to music, not just taking calls. The battery lasts for 4 hours and 30 minutes of talk time and 4 hours of listening to music.

3.PLANTRONIC VOYAGER LEGEND

Plantronic Voyager Legend is mono Bluetooth headset with three microphones to improve audio quality. Due to that, sound quality is great, you can talk on the street, while driving or at the mall and you won't have any problem. If you take this headset off, it will automatically mute your calls or music. If you wear glasses, this headset is great for you because it won't interfere with your glasses. Voyager Legend can pair with two devices, so you can take calls on your mobile phone and listen to music on your laptop at the same time. The battery can last up to 7 hours of talk time and 11 days on standby.

4.NOKIA BH-095

Nokia BH-095 is stereo Bluetooth headset with the best audio quality. They are rather big so they are good for listening to music due to great noise filtering. The bass in music is usually a problem with Bluetooth headset, but this one has really great bass quality. So, when it comes to taking calls or listening to music, this headset is perfect. You can increase the volume and shut down the world around you in one second. This headset is, in our opinion, better for listening to music, but that doesn't mean you can take calls with it. Battery life is impressive, it can last up to 24 hours of talk time and 15 hours of listening to music.

5.MOTOROLA COMMANDONE

Motorola CommandOne is mono Bluetooth headset with good sound quality, performance and many other great features. It has simple design, but not so simple features. It has adjustable ear hook so you can put it on both ears, left or right. This headset is interesting because you can use it without touching it. It has good voice command system, so there are different commands for you. For example, you can say ''Call back'' and call your last number. Also, this headset can read your text and you can dictate the answer to your phone, which is pretty impressive.

Publish post with past dates in Blogger

| Thursday, May 16, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

These are some rare cases, but sometime these too arise when you want to post something that displays past date. For example, if you just caught something on news and want to post it but unfortunately you are a day late. Maximum publishers either mention date in their post content or many times don't publish it.

But there is a simple solution to it. While publishing you need to set the proper date you can also set time. It is kind of faking but still it is a better option as compared to not publishing a post at all.

Also, this feature also stands great for personal life bloggers. Who just want to place a past experience.

How to do it?

  1. While creating any article use 'Schedule' option from 'Post settings' menu.
  2. Select 'set date and time'.
  3. Select appropriate past date from calender or enter directly and time too.
  4. Click 'Done'.
  5. Hit 'Publish' button now you have a post published in the past date and time.
publish article with past dates and time

So with Scheduling post option which is properly saying is meant to schedule a post to get published in the future can also be use to do the opposite and publish post with past dates and time.

If you run a small business, you should know how important it is to cut costs and increase revenues. Most traditional businesses use their own phone line for their business activities. However, if you want to cut costs on your phone bills, maybe switching to a hosted Business VoIP system is a good choice. Instead of using an on-premise phone system and having to pay a huge monthly fee for the service, plus the initial cost of the equipment, you could use a business VoIP service and save a ton of cash on your monthly phone bills.
Toshiba Voice over IP service for businesses
VoIP services for your business
When you use a hosted phone system, you don't have to pay anything for new equipment, You will be able to keep your phone numbers and switch from your current service provider without any hassle. A hosted phone service will replace your traditional analog phone system with a hosted phone system and all your calls will be forwarded across the Internet through Voice over IP (VoIP) technology. You will be able to receive your calls on IP phones that are plugged into your broadband connection. With this new technology, business owners could save as much as 50% on their phone bills. You will also get much cheaper international and national call rates.

You could manage the whole system through an online portal. You will not have to pay for any maintenance charges, since your service provider will make sure the whole system stays healthy all the time. Most of the Fortune 500 companies are using this new VoIP technology to lower their costs and boost their proficiency. Track your visitor flow with Analytics

| Monday, May 06, 2013 | | Be first to comment!

Tracking your visitors activities on your site/blog helps in learning what user wants, what they like and what they dislike.

Knowing things like where your visitors came from and where they left your site. Maximum analytic tools help you know the bounce rate, that is, how many visitors consists of only a single page view.

Having a graphical traffic flow, makes a lot of sense and makes study of your traffic flow a lot more easier.

traffic flow in google analytics

How to track Visitor Flow?

  1. Log-in into your Google Analytics account.
  2. Select your site data from the list that opens up.
  3. Navigate to 'Traffic Source' > 'Source' > 'Visitors Flow'.
Visitor flow chart will appear, showing incoming and leaving traffic. Select the appropriate date range. By default it will show only the chart till 1st interaction.

Select the filter. First column will show the filter based category, second column will show the first page that a user landed on after getting redirected. The third column shows the first interaction, this is when a visitor opens some other page after the landing page. After first interaction use '+Step' to see more interactions, more page accessed one after the other.

Highlighting a specific flow

After selecting the filter, if you want to track traffic flow or activity you need to track how visitor flow from one page to next that started from a specific source. Here, highlighting comes in just click on any source or any interaction and then select 'Highlight traffic through here'. Doesn't matter, in which interaction you selected to highlight, the entire path from beginning till end will get highlighted.

Exploring a specific traffic flow

Another great option, especially for high traffic sites. Lets say that you have more than 500 visitors per day then there starts a need to explore the flow in depth. Causes of sudden drops, what visitors like the most. To deal with this right click on any column entry or any interaction and select 'Explore traffic through here'.

An other way to do so is using the magnifier '+' button. But this will only widen up the chart, still lesser insight and details.

Social Network share stats and SEO

| Thursday, May 02, 2013 | | 2 Comments so far

In an update in Google's search algorithm, Google started to count or take social stats into consideration for ranking any domain name.

Users or publishers can create pages on Facebook as well as Google Plus. But the SEO functionality or benefits achieved with having pages on these two top platforms differ greatly.
share on twitter, facebook, stumbleupon. google plus
Share on social networks

What likes or +1's are considered?

A simple answer to a simple question. People do know that they are considered but maximum of them still have no idea of how these are counted. Google does not take into consideration all the likes or +1's when it comes to ranking your site/blog.

On both sites, the like or +1's given to your homepage url counts.

Page Like VS URL Like : Google Plus

A page on Google plus can be connected to your sites URL. After doing this step +1's for URL's and +1's for Page become one. From now on if a user give your page or your link a +1 then it is counted on both platforms.

A single Google Plus page plugin or widget performs both tasks, that too simultaneously. Furthermore, Google Plus page can be connected to your site by using a rel="publisher" tag this will help user see your page on search engine result when they search with exact query. Try searching "Google" on Google you will see the country specific G+ page. There is a rel="author" tag too, to connect your personal profile with your content. (Non of the tags are explained in details here).

Page Like VS URL Like : Facebook

In Facebook you cannot connect your sites URL to your page, though your can mention it on your Facebook Page. Both your page like and URL like walks different paths. Now as mentioned above your URL like counts therefore, Facebook page like have no SEO result for Google's organic search.

Why should I have a Facebook page as it brings no SEO?

Well, having likes on page do brings a fan base and an option that helps you deliver your content or message directly on the wall of your fans. And the higher the number of fans the higher are the chances of getting conversions (user clicking wall links and getting redirected to your site).

Now you are required to put a Like button on your site the helps your user generate URL likes. For this visit Facebook Developers - Like Button, place your URL with http:// and then generate code by using 'Get Code' button.

Similarly, Facebook comments, shares, twitter, etc. work on your domain name. These are something that are achieved over time. You can ask your friends or family member to increase your social stat. It is always to get some extra with your in-house resources.
